Subject: Gradation Analysis and Percolation Testing Pura Vida Ranch Garfield County, Colorado Project No. GS05690.002-145 7 CTLITHOMPSON We visited the site on October 31, 2013 to excavate one profile and two percolation pits at the approximate locations shown on Figure 1. We also obtained a soil sample from a pit excavated in the area of a new septic system. We performed gradation and hydrometer testing on the soil sample. Graphic logs of the soils encountered in our pits are shown on Figure 2. The sample tested contained 25 percent gravel and 31 percent sand size particles. The part of the soil sample with diameters smaller than sand were subjected to hydrometer analysis. Hydrometer analysis determined that the samples contained 40 percent silt and 8 percent clay size particles. Gradation test results are shown on Figure 3. We also performed percolation testing on the soils encountered in our pits. Percolation testing was performed on the silty sand soil in P-1, and on the gravel soil in P-2. The pits were presoaked the night before testing. Testing was performed on November 7, 2013. Results of the testing indicated that the percolation rate for the sand was 8.5 minutes per inch, and the percolation rate for the gravel was 7 minutes per inch.
