Typically, building permits are issued and completed prior to the building being occupied. The exception to this rule is a building remodel or addition that does not affect the entire structure. The scope of work with the above permit does affect the entire building. Fire sprinkler system, interior environment, and egress requirements are central to the permitted work and are primarily health and life safety concerns. This permit with its requirements was issued on July 31, 2013. Plans were submitted to the local fire district on June 26, 2013. There has been more than enough time to get this work completed to make the building safe. The building department has set the date for all work to be completed, inspected and approved ofJune 15, 2014. After this date, if there has not been a final inspection from the county, fire district, and state electrical inspector, the building will be considered unsafe as per Section 116 of the 2009 IBC as amended by Garfield County. The structure will be placarded as such and only workers related to getting the permitted work completed will be allowed to enter the structure. All OPCO operations will have to cease until the structure is made safe. Based on our conversation this week, this should be enough time for you to get this work completed. It is important that there are not any other delays. We look forward to your cooperation with getting this done. Please call if you have any questions.
