G7 OF 7 t PROPER -POWER -SAW CUTTING OF COLOR -COATED STEEL SHEETING As recommended_in our general building manual, steel color coated sheeting may be cut with a power saw..: ...IF it is done away from other panels unused or already installed. ...IF the interior (bottom) surface of the panel is place UP and is covered with a tar- paulin (this protects the exterior (top) surface from hot fillings and minimizes the chance of damage.) ...If these fillings are wiped off both surfaces before installation. If these cutting precautions are not taken, rust spots are likely to develop. Following are the results of an examination conducted by National Steel Corporation Research Center which•proves that rust spots on the painted surface of color -coated panels were caused by hot metal particles generated by an abrasive saw striking this sur- face...adhering to it...and subsequently rusting. NOTE: The above information also applies to fillings generated when drilling holes for fastening by drill screws.
