ISEALO 1 August 2, 2006 Jeff Haase and Tiffany Cerise 3198 County Road 226 Rifle, CO 61850 RE: As -Built -Onsite Wastewater System, 3198 County Road 226, Garfield County, CO SE Job No. 26122.01 (Garfield County Permit No. 4174) Dear Jeff and Tiffany: Pursuant to County Regulations, this letter provides documentation that the new onsite wastewater system (OWS) recently installed at the above referenced site is in general compliance with the design plan and the treatment system specifications. Sopris Engineering has performed site visits to measure, inspect, and document the as built conditions of the constructed system. We have coordinated our efforts with the treatment system installer, and the contractor that constructed the system. The system was inspected prior to backfilling and after all installations were completed. The as -built conditions and installation of the new OWS components is in compliance with County and State regulations and the design specifications for the system. The as -built field dimensions and location of the new OWS treatment components were installed with respect to existing site conditions and are marked in the field by the component risers, valve boxes and inspection ports installed to the finish surface grades. The attached As -Built design drawings, dated August 2, 2005, are the record documents for the new OWS. The Haase residence currently contains 3 bedrooms with 5 family members. The existing OWS permitted in 1984 has failed. A new system was designed by Sopris Engineering with respect to existing site conditions and the potential future addition to the house. The new system was designed to treat and disperse the wastewater flows for up to an equivalent 6 -bedroom home. The design includes the installation of an advanced secondary treatment system (Orenco Advantex AX -40) that efficiently treats the wastewater prior to discharge to the low-pressure drip (Bel -Pat) soil infiltration dispersal system. The chosen technology was specified based on the site soil conditions and the potential future expansion of the home. The location of the shallow dispersal field is up gradient from the house and is installed in undisturbed soils that appear to have better absorptive capacity than the down gradient location of the abandoned field. The System was installed in accordance with Garfield County Regulations and the design specifications presented in the Sopris Engineering As -Built design drawing, dated August 2, 2006. A new 2000 -gallon dual compartment concrete septic/re circulation tank was installed with an Orenco Systems, Inc. Advantex AX -40 treatment system installed with the tank. The systems control box has a remote telemetry unit that can be activated by connection to a phone line. The Advantex re -circulating packed bed filter treatment system has been installed by a qualified installer in compliance with the manufactures specifications. A three-year inspection and maintenance agreement is in place, which calls for service and inspections every 6 months. 502 Main Street • Suite A3 ❑ Carbondale, CO 81623 ❑ (970) 704-0311 ❑ Fax (970) 704-0313 SOPRIS ENGINEERING • LLC civil consultants Jeff Haase SE Job No. 26122.01 August 2, 2006 Page 2 The new re circulation tank is installed in series with the existing 1000 -gallon two-compartment concrete septic tank that is being utilized as the primary solids septic tank. The system has a dosing pump basin installed adjacent to the new re circulation tank to pressure dose effluent to the low pressure drip line field through a distribution manifold adjacent to the field. The field is designed to have 4 pressure zones with 3 zones currently installed. The fourth zone will be installed if the future home expansion occurs in the future. The distribution piping at the pressurized manifold was installed with a valve and a distribution pipe extension to accommodate any future expansion. The dispersal field was constructed with 2" low pressure perforated PVC distribution lateral lines installed in shallow 2' wide by 100' long trenches. Each pressure zone contains 4 distribution laterals installed on 2' centers in two trenches each 100' in length as generally delineated on the site plan. Flow is split equally between the 4 laterals per zone through the pressurized header pipe connected from the pressurized manifold. Inspection ports were installed on one end lateral in each zone. The overall dimension of the installed dispersal field is 100' by 24' with potential expansion to 100' by 32". Each zone in the field was installed level within suitable soil. The lateral pipes are backfilled with native excavated soil. Treated effluent from the re circulation tank/Advantex treatment system is pressure dosed to each zone in the field. The construction was completed utilizing specified materials installed according to design. The minimum setback distances have been maintained. Advantex AX -40 The advanced treatment system installed is an Orenco Systems Advantex-AX-40 unit (re -circulating trickling packed bed filters). The system is capable of producing effluent quality which meets or exceeds the requirements of the US EPA for secondary wastewater treatment (30mg/L BOD and 30 mg/L suspended solids). The dispersal field is sized to adequately service (6) bedrooms. All OWS components are accessible from the surface to facilitate system testing and maintenance. The Advantex re -circulating pump time doses effluent from the second compartment clear zone to the filter pods. The return flow is discharged back to the first compartment for nitrogen removal. The Advantex AX -40 is designed to provide treatment resulting in effluent water quality parameter levels of 15 mg/L BOD and 10 mg/L TSS based on a design flow of 1350 gpd. Maintenance Protocol The engineered system shall be inspected on a regular basis and be properly maintained. Ownership of the system and responsibility for construction, repair and maintenance will remain with the Lot Owner. The Owner shall retain the services of qualified personnel to inspect the OWS and to perform all maintenance and repairs necessary to ensure that the system is functioning properly, is in good operating condition and is in compliance with the manufacturers performance requirements. The operating components of the OWS system will be inspected within 30 days of being placed into operation and thereafter at least bi-annually. Jeff Haase SE Job No. 26122.01 August 2, 2006 Page 3 The OWS should require minimal maintenance. Several factors influencing the need for maintenance include: actual wastewater flows versus design flows, the volume of kitchen/domestic waste (excluding human waste and toilet paper), excessive household chemicals, harsh detergents (Tide Ultra, Oxy Clean) and other toxic liquids. The treatment components, tanks, field and other system components should be visually inspected bi-annually for debris, damage, leaks, or other potential problems. In general, for a properly utilized system, septic tanks should be inspected every year and pumped and every 4 -'8 years. The effluent filters should be cleaned every six months and at the time of pumping. Dispersal fields should be maintained with suitable cover and kept free of root invasive plants. Positive surface drainage away from the absorption field should be maintained. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please call.
