In order to understand the scope of the work intended under a permit application and expedite the
issuance of a permit it is important that complete information be provided. When reviewing a plan
and it's discovered that required information has not been provided by the applicant, this will result
in the delay of the permit issuance and in proceeding with building construction. The owner or
contractor shall be required to provide this information before the plan review can proceed. Other
plans that are in line for review may be given attention before the new information may be reviewed
after it has been provided to the Building Department.
Please review this document to determine if you have enough information to design your
project and provide adequate information to facilitate a plan review. Also, please consider
using a design professional for assistance in your design and a construction professional for

Before such work can be recommenced, a new permit shall first be obtained to do so, and the fee therefore
shall be one half the amount required for a new permit for such work, provided no changes have been made
or will be made in the original plans and specifications for such work, and provided further that such
suspension or abandonment has not exceeded one year. In order to renew action on a permit after expiration,
the permittee shall pay a new full permit fee."
Please contact this office at your very earliest convenience, in writing, to advise us about the status of your
permitted work.
If you have not responded within thirty days from the receipt of this notice the permit will be closed
and a permanent notation will be placed in the property records at the County Clerk and Recorders
office that indicates that the work permitted per Colorado Revised Statutes 30-28-205 & 210, was not
inspected, is not approved and that the building or area is illegal to occupy and is subject to legal
abatement action.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,

Dear Matt,
I received your letter yesterday regarding my building permit, number 9684 issued
10/3/05, and notice of possible expiration. I did not realize that the permit could expire
within a 180 -day period after the date of issue. I have not suspended or abandoned work
on the garage; in fact I am beginning to form for concrete and will be contacting your
office very soon for an inspection. I teach Automotive Service Technology at Rifle High
School and it requires that I spend practically every minute of my life working between
August 101' and June 315` each year in order to make the program a successful and
rewarding experience for the youth of our community wanting to become technicians.
During my short summers and breaks throughout the year I have tried to make progress
on my garage. I started last year on June 1S1 with submitting my plans and it took me
until October to finally get the permit. With school in full swing it was impossible for me
to begin any work at that time. During my spring break in mid-March I was able to dig
the footers, compact and get the site to grade. Until just a couple of days ago it was on
hold again until school was done for the year. I am now running string lines and
beginning to form, now that my summer has arrived. My hopes are to work on it non-
stop until I either realize completion or run out of summer and have to go back to school
in early August. I am asking that under the circumstances of my job and self contracting
my garage, because I can not afford to have someone else build it, that you would
consider my situation and status as commenced and ongoing. Thank you for the notice
and explanation on the permit and please contact me with any questions, further
explanation I can supply or any concerns you may have on the project.
Sincerely,
