Gentlemen:
We hereby request expedited consideration of
special use review on applications submitted on May '1, 1982
requesting approval to construct an anhydrite handling and
crushing circuit as an addition to our existing limestone
and magnetite grinding operation.
Copies of the above mentioned permit applications
submitted on May '7 are attaehed hereto for convenience.
Maps and supporting documents were previously submitted to
your Department with the applications.
In support of this application, we respectfully
show:
The proposed anhydrite handling and grinding
installation will be part of existing industrial installations
located easterly of Carbondale adjacent to the Rio Grande
Railroad right-of-way, which form an integral part of this
company's c6a1 minin! operations. -The existing faciliti-es
-inciud,-e a 3O,oOo ton .,.rit train coa'/frffing and loadout faciliLies, the above-mentioned lime-
I stone and magnetite grinding plant; storage areas, roadways,
I railroad tracks, scales and the liker ds well as offices,

I been used for coal loadout and mine support since 1957, with
I gradually expanding uses. The.limestone grinding plant was

The limestone plant buitding (see pictures) is approxi-
mateLy 72,000 sq. ft. and houses a miIl and pulverizet. The
ore is trucked fro* the Marblehead Limestone Quarry (iust
northofGlenwoodSprings)totheplant.At4in.minussize, the ore is then ciushed by a hammermill to 3/4 in' minus,
then crushed again by a pulver]-zeT to rock dust (for dusting
underground coll minbs). This product is used by Mid-Continent
Resouices, fnc. at the Coal Basin mines and sold to other
mines in Colorado and Utah.
Themagnetiteplantadjacenttothelimestoneplant
(same building) brings iron ore by truck from Woody Creek
(pitkin Iron ili.r.) anA grinds this ore in a ball mi1l to 325
mesh. It is then sacked and also shipped bulk to the Mid-
continent Resources mines and others in colorado and utah'
It is used in the heavy-media washing of coal'
