Cantrup Permit BLCO 1-14-3095
David Batholomew, Ron Biggers and I did a final inspection related to this permit. We attempted one in
October but there were still issues.
Both the existing buildings have had extensive work done with the electric, septic, and structural
upgrades over almost the past year. From our October inspection, it became evident the structures
were still being used as a boarding house with multiple kitchen type facilities in most of the bedrooms.
This led to overcrowding in the units and many trips with the smoke detectors. Since October, the
structures have been converted back to 1single1-bedroom apartment unit 1 Building A (lA), 2- 2-
bedroom apartments unit 2A and 3A mid floor of building A, and one 2-bedroom apartment Unit 4A top
floor of building A. Building B has 1 2-bedroom apartment upstairs and 1 2-bedroom apartment
downstairs. This change to the units has decreased the occupancy greatly making them much safer and
has brought the units back to their historic use. Based on conversations with some of the renters, the
smoke alarms are not tripping all the time. It was found during this inspection that 2 smoke alarms will
need to be relocated in Unit 3A. Peter has agreed to do this and will follow up with pictures or an
inspection. Also stacks of paper will be removed outside the egress door to unit 3A.
With both the fire and building departments' final inspection, we can close out this permit. Future
inspections may be needed if it appears there is additional crowding or if there are complaints about the
property.
