Vents shall be located below the bottom of the floor joist per IRC, R-408.1. As an alternative to insulating floors, crawlspace walls shall be permitted to be insulated when the space is not vented to the outdoors and meets the requirements of IRC, R-408.3. Take precautions to protect plumbing in these areas. Door Schedule Notes 1. A floor or landing is required at each side of an exterior door except for stairways of one or two risers serving nonrequired exit doors (Section R311.4.3). 2. Landings shall be at least as wide as the door or stairway served and shall have a minimum dimension in the direction of travel of 36 inches (914 mm) (Section R311.4.3). 3. All framed walls, floors and roof/ceiling compromising elements of the building thermal envelope shall be provided with moisture control complying with Section R318.1. 2. Locations subject to decay damage require the use of an approved species and grade of lumber, pressure preservativety treated or decay resistant in accordance with Section R319.1 3. Except where required to be waterproofed, foundation walls that retain earth and enclose habitable or usable spaces located below grade shall be dampproofed (Section R406.1). 4. Underfloor spaces. other than basements, cellars or those addressed under exceptions to Section R408.2 shall be provided with ventilation openings through foundation walls or exterior walls (Section R408.1). 5. Draftstops shall be installed when there is usable space both above and below the concealed space of a floor/ceiling assembly. so that the area of concealed space. 6. Enclosed accessible space under stairs shall be protected on the enclosed side with 1/2 inch gypsum board (Section R311.2.2).
