As such, our office issued construction documents dated 09129/09, Roof framing for the single story residence consists of pre manufactured attic trusses spanning 34'-0" north -to -south to the exterior, wood stud, bearing walls. There are a series of door and window openings in the hearing walls which include a series of 78" wide rough openings, We understand, that at this time, all of the openings are famed with (3) - 2 x 10 headers, and that all of the headers are supported, each end, with (2) - 2 x 6 ((1) lack + (1) Ring). The header support posts are less than what is specified on the construction documents, Our office has reviewed the header support posts and has the following recommendations: 1. For rough openings which are up to 40" wide, the as built header support posts ((1)-2 x 6 Jack + (1)-2 x 6 King) is structurally acceptable. 2. For rough openings up to 78" wide a two step reinforcement procedure is recommended: First the existing king stud should be screwed to the existing jack stud with 1/4" diameter x 3" SDS screws spaced at 12" on center, (Screw mfr. = Simp- son Strong Tie, Co) This screwing will transfer a portion of the vertical load from the jack stud to the king stud, Secondly, for the rough openings greater than 40", a second 2 x 6 king stud should be installed, General Information Building Plan Review Description of Work: Single family dwelling.
