Building Inspector
Garfield County Building Dept.
0375 County Road 352, Suite 2060
Rifle, CO 81650
Subject: Structural Inspection of the Lewis Garage, 8877 C.R. 320, Garfield County,
Colorado.
Dear Building Inspector
Alpine Edge Engineering has been contacted by contractor Rick Kuester for inspection of
the built roof overhang assembly for the structure described above, per building inspector
request. AEE performed an on-site inspection of the completed structural framing work
on May 14, 2014. A 6 1/2' roof overhang has been constructed on the northwest side of
the garage with the following methods. 2x6 lumber has been scabbed onto the ends of
Overholt Truss -supplied pre-engineered truss trails with an alternating 2/1 10d framing
nails pattern at 5" O.C. The scabs overlap the tails approximately 3 feet. The scab rafters
are supported at 4' from the wall with a horizontal 2x4 brace attached with (4) 10d
framing nails. The horizontal brace is attached to the stud wall with a 2x4 ledger. The
scab rafters have an additional approx. 18" overhang beyond the support location. The
entire roof is sheathed with 5/8" OSB sheathing.
AEE certifies that the above assembly meets or exceeds requirements to support and
resist all applied loads (40 psf snow, 15 psf dead, 90 mph wind) for flexible finishes
according to Garfield County Building Code. AEE explicitly limits this specification to
the assembly described above. Foundation, roof framing, and all other components are
by others.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
