Re : Piccinati Porch
As requested, I visited the site to observe the excavation and the placement of the footing
forms. It was noted that the Geotechnical Engineer had not visited the site at the time of
my visit. The footing forms were place around some boulder protrusions with the footing
rebar interrupted. It was my recommendation that the Geotechnical Engineer review the
soils condition and give his input prior to the writing of this memorandum.
I have reviewed both the initial report, dated October 11, 2012, and the follow up report
dated October 18, 2012 prepared by HP Geotech. It appears that the concerns of the
initial report have been satisfied and that the soils are prepared to the satisfaction of the
Geotechnical Engineer to allow for our assumption of a 2000 psf bearing capacity.
Due to the discontinuity of the reinforcement in the footings, it is especially critical that
the 2 -#5 rebar indicated at the top and bottom of the foundation wall in detail 1/S3.1 be
installed per plan. If the wall reinforcement is provided per plan, the interruption of the
footing reinforcement by the boulder intrusions should not be problematic.
Please contact us if there are any questions regarding the above information. Thank you
for the opportunity to work you on this project.
