It will be constructed with treated pine. The under sections of the deck will be skirted with brown PVC lattice. I will be putting in footers (noted by circles under the new addition. The footers will be at least 3 feet deep (code) and will also be at least 6-8 inches above ground level. To attach the deck to the existing deck I am going to bolt on a 2 x 8 ledger below the existing 2x 10 rim joist. I will then attach my hangers to the existing rim joist and ledger. My main frame of the deck will be 2 x 10 so as to snatch the existing deck. I know that it is overkill but it will match. I was then going to use 2 x 8 hangers as joists between the two outside joists. We designed the deck addition with one 7 '/ inch step down from the existing deck. We will remove a small portion of the existing deck railing to make the deck addition a somewhat separate deck. Thank you for your time and let me know what else I need to complete the application process. I am new at this and trying to learn what to do.
