The hanger is the same so it was easy to instalL It is very quiet, confirming the assessments of other reviewers. My old machine lasted 17 years so I'm hoping for longevity of the Kenmore. I was very disappointed to find that the unit did not come with a connecting cord. Fortunately, I was able to salvage the cord from the old unit before It went to the trash so I did not have to buy a cord pack for an additional $12. I did not see anything in your promo material alerting me to this lack of a fundamental part." She even replaced the cord to accomodate the electrical plug and outlet. All I did was make the final plumbing connection with the simple damp on the side. This was quite an improvement over our 7 year old contractor mode!. This disposal takes the garbage in and seems to want more. There is plenty of power and it is very quiet compared to our old model. So far, it has been worth every cent." I had the old one out and the new one installed in about an hour. The discharge line coming out of the Kenmore lined up perfectly with my existing plumbing ( My old disposer was a Badger 5 ). The Kenmore also hooked up to the existing drain clamp. They look pretty universal so purchasing a dlsimilar model from your old unlt should not be a problem. Before doing the wiring, make sure you turn the breaker off and check with a tester to make sure there is no current running in the line. When doing the electrical you will need a romex coupler to hold the romex going into the unit. Kenmore does not include one with the disposer. I just unscrewed the coupler off the old unit and used it on the new one. They are universal. It will screw right in. The Kenmore does not come with wire connectors. For the uniformed these are the plastic things you screw onto 2 wires to keep them together. I do some electrical work so I have them in my work room. Do not use the old connectors because the metal inside does rust and will not tighten up as well as new one. After connecting the wires always wrap electrical tape around the wires going Into the connector. This helps keep the wires from coming loose when you bend the wires to get them back into the disposer. Always tape wires whenever you make a connection. After making all the plumbing connections run water in both sinks and check for leaks before your wife puts all that junk back under the sink!" NFPA 96 is a reference code of the IFC. In section 1.1.4* it states:" This standard shall not apply to facilities where all of the following are met: ( 1) Only residential equipment is being used (2) Fire extinguishers located in all kitchen areas in accordance with NFPA 1 0 (3) Facility is not an assembly occupancy ( 4) Subject to approval of the authority having jurisdiction" From our conversation they will be using commercial equipment (1) and a church is an A-3 occupancy (3). The Explanatory Material (A.1.1.4) states" ... Examples of operations that might not require compliance with this standard include the following: (1) Daycare ... (2) Therapy cooking .... (3) Churches and meeting operations that are not cooking meals that produce grease-laden vapors (4) Employee break rooms ... Again from our conversation is appears that they will be cooking meals that produce grease -laden vapors. As such it appears that the Methodist Church will need to meet the standards !or commercial cooking facilities that would include proper exhaust and make-up air as well as a kitchen hood extinguishing system. I'm a little uncomfortable going against the all powerful God and his ability to protect his occupancy! From: Mike Morgan [mailto:mimorgan@riflefiredept.org] Sent: Monday, August 13, 2007 4:07PM To: Kevin Whelan Subject: Methodist church I had a phone call today from JB VanTeylingen. They are wanting to replace an old stove in the Methodist church and are concerned with not meeting the definition of a "commercial cooking operation". Can we get together at some point and talk about this.
