The findings of our observations and opinion on the suitability of the soils for foundation support are presented in this report. The residence is an older 11/ story log structure over a walk -out basement that daylights to the north. The additions consist of a deck attached to the north side and a covered porch attached to the south side, both at the main level. The additions are founded on 30 inch diameter isolated footing pads bearing about 31/2 to 4 feet below the ground surface. Where exposed, the bearing soils consist of relatively dense sandy gravel and cobbles with boulders. The bearing soils should be suitable for support of an allowable bearing pressure of 2,000 psf. There could be some differential settlement with respect to the existing structure which should be considered in the design. The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed within the limited foundation excavations and do not include subsurface exploration to evaluate the subsurface conditions within the loaded depth of foundation influence. This study is based on the assumption that soils beneath the footings have Parker 303-841-7119 e Colorado Springs 719-633-5562 0 Silverthorne 970-468-1989 ,Cjiff Hughes April 11, 2003 Page 2 equal or better support than those exposed. The risk of foundation movement may be greater than indicated in this report because of possible variations in the subsurface conditions. It is possible the data obtained by subsurface exploration could change the recommendations contained in this letter.
