Adequate and complete information will prevent delays in the plan review process. Reviewing a plan and the discovery that required information has not been provided by the applicant may result in the delay of the permit issuance and in proceeding with building construction. The owner or contractor may be required to provide this information before the plan review may proceed. This causes delays because other plans that are in line for review may be given attention before the new information may be reviewed after it has been provided to the Building Department. Please review this document to determine if you have enough information to design your project and provide adequate information to facilitate a plan review. If you do not, it may be helpful to obtain a book titled "Dwelling Construction Under the Uniform Building Code". This book is available to you through this department at our cost. Also, please consider using a design professional for assistance in your design and a construction professional for construction of your project. To provide for a more understandable plan in order to determine compliance with the building, plumbing and mechanical codes, applicants are requested to review the following checklist prior to and during design. 1 Plans to be included for a Building Permit must be on draft paper at least 18"x 24" and drawn to scale. Ure-k may be sprayed over foam In existing buildings or it can be used as a protective coating over foam in new construction projects as a combination system. Th rmai insulation Ure-K applied over polyurethane provides addi- tional thermal resistance which will meet the stringent "R" values required for today's energy conservation needs. The combination of Ure-K and polyurethane has the highest efficiency of all available insulations. Noises Controi Ure-K is a monolithic coating which will provide a highly efficient sound absorption surface in either new or existing building& This Is an important benefit in controlling noise levels to meet OSHA and other requirements. Installation • The Ure-K fibers and liquid binder are applied to the surfaces simultaneously In separate streams through equipment especially engineered to con- trol the material density and adhesive/fiber mix- ture. The Ure-K binder provides excellent ad- hesion to all types of polyurethane foam Insula- tions. Thermal Barrier Testing Ure-K was tested and has bean accepted by National Code Bodies and Fire Insurance Com- panies as a thermal barrier coating over poly- urethane olyurethane foam, used as an interior ineulating pro- duct. The following tests satisfied these require- ments: FAX:18012690620 PAGE 2 Full Scala Corner Test Test Method: A full scale corner test was con- ducted In accordance with Factory Mutual Build- ing Comer Flre Test Procedure with the teat sur- face applied to the interior of the simulated buila- ing structure. The etnucture was 26 fait high core slating of a comer wall configuration and a roof or ceiling membrane. One wall was 50 feet and the other38 feet long. The teat surface was applied to both the walls and ceiling. Ure-K was applied % thick over 116upolyurethane with a flame spread rating of over 200 In the ASTM -E-64 Tunnel Test procedure. No sprinklers were used In this test. Test Conclusions: Ure-K Spray Coating, ap- plledi4"thick le approved for building interior use as a protective coating to delay the ignition and reduce the surface burning rate of low melting, combustible rigid spray -on polyurethane and pro- tect its dimensional stability for a period of 16 minutes In a non-combustible occupancy for un- sprinklered wall andcelling configuration. Factory Mutual Research Corporation. ASTM -E-119 Test Method: The test panel consisted of a urethane foam over which Ure-K was applied. The urethane foam had a flame spread rating of less than 75, per the manufacturer, and was applied to a Waheat rock to a thickness of ap proximately 3 " Ure-K was spray applied over the foam to a nomi- nal thickness of 1 Inch. Test Conclusion: The finished rating is the shorter time span for a 250°F average of the five thermocouples, ora 375°F maximum temperature rise of one thermocouple above ambient an the unexposed face of the thermal barrier. Based upon the above criteria, Ure-K as tested had a finished rating of 25 minutes and 1 second. Enclosed Room Test Test Method: The test facility consisted of a Cully enclosed 8 x 12 x 8 foot room. The urethane foam, with a flame spread rating of less than 75, was spray applied to the Interior of the room. A 1 " application of Ure-K covered the urethane. The Wood crib fuel source was constructed of 1.6" 7 t.5"sticks of Douglas Flrwood In 15" lengths. The crib had a weight of 30 Ibe. Temperatures In the room reached a high of 2,013°F. The length of the test was 30 minutes. The ratio of the area of steel to concrete shall be greater than or equal to .0018. The tank pad floor constructed 9 inches thick with #4 rebar at 12 inches on center both ways provides a ratio of .00185. The tank pad walls constructed 8 inches thick with #4 rebar at 12 inches on center provides a ratio of .0021. Both of these will satisfy the minimum code requirements. If you have any questions please call (435) 781-2550. All welding and fabrication is done in the Utah plant. Shop is for Tight maintenance only. Q: What is stored in the shop storage area? A: Truck parts, tools, truck supplies, oil. Q: Quantity of oil? Any other chemical or hazardous storage? A: Probably 55 gallon bulk storage of oil with an air system to fill trucks. No other storage of chemicals except fuel additives for the diesel. Some oil is actually stored in shop area near to where trucks are maintained. Q: Office Storage has what in it? A: Boiler, hot water heaters maybe an air compressor. Q: What size boiler? A: Maybe 195,000 btu. Don't know yet. Did not think it would be over 295,000 btu based on other buildings built. Q: How do the trucks refuel? A: Trucks are using commercial fuelling stations. They may add a fuelling station in the future, but there are not any plans for it now. Q: What is the 12x24 shed used for adjacent to the KCL storage? A: It is a pump house/blender for mixing KCL. A. Dear Nick, Please see listed items below that need to be addressed with your project to build a maintenance shop and office. In general, I assumed the shop could be used as a H-4 occupancy with open flames. The requirements for 11-4 do not require many additional constraints to the building of the project and allow for welding to be done in the shop area now or in the future. I am assuming construction could begin as long as there are -timely submittals for the required items. Please call with any questions. 1. Special inspections are required for high strength bolting as per Plans and Chapter 17 of the 97 UBC. Please provide possible inspectors for approval prior to any steel frame work. See notes on plans for partial list of inspectors in this area. Your steel building installers may know someone as well. 2. Please provide 1 -hour and 2 -hour tested fire resistance wall assemblies that will be used with this building. See the Plans for required locations of the occupancy separations. Your engineer could help with this information. 3. Spill control as per Sec. 307.2.3.2 97 UBC is required for the Parts and Storage area, if the quantities exceed capacities listed. Please provide this information prior to concrete slab work in this area. 4. Please note required changes to the Accessible Bathrooms. 5. Please amend detail 4 on sheet S-2 to reflect required 36in. frost protection for footers. 6. Please note references to 97 UBC, IPC, and UMC rather than IBC. 7. Please provide additional sheets N-3 and N-4 for the County copy of the Approved plans as they are missing. Owner's copy of the Approved Plans and Building Permit must remain at job site during construction. 8. Rifle Fire District will do their own inspection for access, fire extinguishers type and locations, and possible alarms. They can be phoned at 625.1243 Mike Morgan. 9. See redlined items for other requirements. 108 8th Street, Suite 201, Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81601 (970) 945-8212 (970) 285-7972 Fax: (970) 384-3470 Once again, please call with any questions you may have.
