CO 81652 Ellsworth Shop -OH Job No: 15-6593 Date: October 23, 2015 General Comments As scheduled, a representative arrived on-site to peJform the below discussed services and we have the following comments. •••OPEN HOLE ... The exposed materials at the base of the excavation for the Ellsworth Shop foundation footings were observed al the project site localed at 680 Ram Lene in Silt, CO. At the bottom of fooling elevation, we observed the exposed materials lo consist of Lean Clay to Siity Sand with occasional Gravels and Cobbles that were generally consistent with our experience of the anticipated conditions In the area. Soft and/or saturated subgrade materials were removed up lo 2 feet in depth below proposed bottom of footings down to firm, native, undisturbed soils. Additionally, drainage Improvements including exiling culvert maintenance and a subsurface foundation drain system was installed . The 011er-excavaled material was replaced with recycled Class 6 ABC and compacted In lifts with a walk behind roller lo the bottom of footing elevallon. No project geotechnlcal report has been prepared for this site, and the plans reference an assumed soil bearing capacity of 2000 psf Quantitatively verifying bearing capacity generally requires access to Standard Penetration Test data and subsurface laboratory data. Based on the limited amount of subsurface data available, the observed sous appeared capable of providing an allowable bearing capacity of 2,000 psf with an associated mo11emenl potential of 1-inch, however. the possibility of the presence of weak subsurface materials resulling In allowable bearing capaciUes of less than 2,000 psf cannot be ruled out rrom surface obser11atlons only , In the event that quantitative verification of allowable bearing capacity Is necessary, drilling and sampling should be performed . The exposed malerials were prepared In accordance with project documents. Damian Ellsworth was notified of today's observations. Field Representative; Chris Hullo, CET Englewood.
