FARQUAHAR Andy Schwaller Chef Building Official Garfield County Bu:_lding and Planning Department Dear Andy, Thanks for meeting with me this past Monday to discuss the problem with the finishing of the exterior of the lower section of our log house. As you suggested, I am writing this email to explain our plan of attack and request a delay for the final Certificate of Occupancy Inspection until June of this year. As discussed, we have run into a tight financial situation since the house construction costs, at over $400,000, are more than twice that which we were led to believe by the Log Horne company, Pacific Log Homes. As a consequence, we were planning on finishing the bottom exterior section of the house ourselves over a 12 month, or so, period of time. This constituted applying the synthetic rock finish. As dicsussed, I had absolutely no idea that we were required to cover the exterior styrofoam layer of the basement walls in order to satisfy the County requirements. However, since you note that it is an absolute requirement, I have been checking with builders/ plasterers. We intend to apply a Stucco coat over the unfinished bottom section of the exterior walls. Due to the cold / snow conditions at this time of year, we will not be able to complete th.Ls work until into Spring and we thus request an extension to our building permit to June of this year.
