The original 95' tower was designed and manufactured by Valmont / Microflect, Inc. of Salem, Oregon in 1996. There is an antenna platform sticking out 5' above the top of the 95' tower so that the overall tower height is 100'. All the existing tower legs are made of 50 ksi pipes while all the braces are made of 36 ksi structural steel angles. All the existing tower sections are bolted and X -braced. It was analyzed by Chi S. Lee, P.E. of Sioux City, IA on December 22, 1999 and September 7, 2000. The details of the tower sections, member sizes, allowable capacities, forces and reactions, twists and sways, antenna loading and configuration of the tower are shown on the printout of the computer structural analysis which is a part of this structural analysis report. The most updated information about the antenna loading and the existing self-supporting tower per Valmont / Microflect Drawing No. DC5232Z dated 10-21-96 was furnished by your office. The required basic design wind speed for Site: Extension Cord / #CO 1205, Garfield County, Colorado is 80 mph with 1/2" radial ice (with wind load reduction and 113 increase in allowable stresses taken) per EIA -222-F-1996 Standard. The required antennas are as follows: (12) DAPA 58210 antennas on sector mounts with (12) 1-518" lines at 100' 411//4,A (12) DAPA 58210 antennas on sector mounts with (12) 1-5/8" lines at'90' (1) 2' Dish with radome and (1) 1-5/8" line at 90' (12) DAPA 58210 antennas on sector mounts with (12) 1-5/8" lines at 80' (1) 4' Dish with radome and (1) 1-518" line at 75' (12) DAPA 58210 antennas on sector mounts with (12) 1-518" lines at 70' June 28, 2001 95' Self -Supporting Tower, Extension Cord, Garfield County, Colorado CSL Job #2001J-104-4 (Page 2 of 2 All the feedlines are assumed to be equally distributed over three (3) tower faces. In this case, there is a total of fifty (50) feedlines, and a maximum of seventeen (17) feedlines are exposed to the wind. Assuming the existing tower is in good condition, the structural analysis shows that all the existing tower members are structurally adequate for supporting the required antenna loading at 80 mph wind with 1/2" radial ice (with wind load reduction taken) per EIA -222-F-1996 Standard without any modifications. The most stressed point of the tower legs occurs at EL. 20' in which 96.8% of the allowable capacity of the existing tower legs has been used. The most stressed point of the tower diagonals occurs at EL. 0' in which 74.2% of the allowable capacity of the existing tower diagonals has been used. Furthermore, the tower meets the requirements of rigidity per EIA -222-F-1996 Standard. Per my computer structural analysis dated 6-27-01, the maximum base reactions are as follows: Total shear = 24 kips Axial down load = 21 kips Uplift per leg = 155 kips Compression per leg = 169 kips Overturning Moment = 1498 ft -kips A new tower foundation has been designed for the updated reactions based upon a soil boring log (#01-1313) by Red Mesa Consulting dated 5-9-01. For the purpose of reference, a foundation drawing is attached to this report. This structural analysis is only good for the wind speed, antenna loading and configuration of the tower as described above. if there are any changes made by any party without my notice or reanalysis of the tower, then Chi S. Lee, P.E. is not responsible for the structural integrity of the tower or any damage caused by the tower failure. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Location: Rhoades, Rifle, Colorado, (RMC 02-1319) Inspection Item: Tower Foundation Inspector: Thomas D. Fry Comments: Subgrade was nonnative road base material. The road base was compacted and moisture conditioned prior to bar placement. Excavation depth was approximately 8 feet. Little to no sloughing was present in the excavation at time of inspection. A two day rain did fill the excavation with approximately 5 inches of water that was pumped out at an earlier date; some water small pools were noted in the excavation at the time of concrete placement. Mats were placed on mortar cubes; no cube sinking was noted at time of placement. Bottom mat consists of #10 bar placed on 4 -inch mortar cubes to maintain the 3 -inch minimum clearance. Top and bottom mats consist of 27 #10 bars running each way (54 total per mat), placed approximately 12 -inch center to center. Top and bottom mats were tied more or less every bar (100%). Top mat is supported by pier rebar and by several #4 bars -bent and spaced evenly throughout the placement to maintain consistent separation of 2.5 feet between mats (6' less than specified). A minimum of 3 -inches was maintained between mat edges and excavation sidewall/form. Pier consists of 43 vertical #11 v -bars and 8 #5 bar hoops more or less every 16". Vertical #11 v -bars had a minimum of 5.5 foot bend on bottom and were tied to both mats. Hoops were over -lapped a minimum of 5 feet. All pier bars were tied 100%. Tower bolts and bolt plate will be placed above the top mat for before concrete placement on pier as per contractor. Minimum rust was present on reinforcing steel in placement; grade 60 reinforcing steel was used. Contractor used one -inch stinger to consolidate concrete during placement. No movement of reinforcing steel was noted during concrete placement. Concrete was placed on nonfrozen soils with an ambient air temperature of approximately 95° F.
