The com.:truc tion of braced wall panels shall be in accordance with one of the following methods: 1. Nominal 1-inch-by-4-inch (25.4 mm by 102 mm) continuous diagonal braces let in to the top and bot- tom plates and th e interven ing stud s or approved m e t- al strap devices in stalled in accordance with the m anufacturer's specifications. The le t-in bracing s ha ll be placed at an a ngl e not more than 60 degrees (1.06 ra d) or less th an 45 degrees (0.79 rad) from th e horizontal. 2. Wood b oard s of 5/g inch (15.9 mm) n e t minimum thickness a pplied diagonally o n stud s spaced a maxi- mum of 24 inches ( 610 mm ). Diagonal boards s hall be attached to studs in accordance with Table R602.3(1). 3 . Wood struc tural p anel s hea thing w ith a thickness not less th an 5h6 inch (7.9 mm) for 16-inch ( 406 mm) s tu d spacing and no t le ss th an 3/g inch (9.5 mm) for 24-inch (610 mm) s tud spacing. Wood s truc tural pane ls s h all be installed in accordance with Ta ble R602.3(3). 4. One-half-inch (12.7 mm) o r 25/3z -inc h (19.8 mm) thick s tructura l fib erboard sheathing app li ed vertical- ly or horizontally o n studs s paced a maximum of 16 inches (406 mm) on center. Structural fiberboard s heat hing s hall be in sta ll ed in accordance with Tab le R602.3 (1). 5. Gypsum board with minimum 1/z -inc h (12.7 mm) thickness placed on s tuds s paced a maximum of 24 inc hes (610 mm) on cent er and fastened at 7 in c h es (1 78 mm) on center w ith the s ize nail s specified in T able R602 .3(1) for s heathing and Table R702.3.5 for inte ri or gypsum board. 6. P articleboa rd wall s heathin g pa nels in stalled in accor- d ance with Ta ble R602.3(4) 7. Portland cement plaster on s tuds spaced a maximum of 1 6 inches ( 406 mm) on ce nter and ins ta ll ed in ac- cordance with Section R703.6. 8. H a rdboa rd p a nel s iding when installed in accord a nce with Table R703.4. Exception : Alternate braced wall panels constructed in accordance with Secti on R602.10.6 sha ll be pe rmitted to replace any o f the above methods of braced wall pan e ls. R602.10.4 Length of braced panels. For Methods 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 a bove, each braced wall panel s hall be at least 48 inches (1 2 19 mm) in length , covering a minimum of three stud s p aces where s tud s ar e spaced 16 in c hes (406 mm) o n center and cove ring a minimum of two stud s paces w here studs are spaced 24 in c hes(610 mm) o n center. F o r Method 5 above, each braced wall panel s ha ll be at le ast 96 in c hes (2438 mm) in length w he re appli ed to o ne face of a braced wall panel a nd at least 48 in ches (1219 mm) w here applied to both faces. 126 Exceptions: 1. Lengths of braced wall pane ls for continu o us wood s tru ctura l panel sheath ing shall be in acco rdance with Section R602.10.5. 2. L ength s of a lternate braced wall pane ls s ha ll be in accordance w ith Section R602.10.6. R602.10.5 Continuous structural panel sheathing. When continuous wood s tru ctural p a nel s heathin g is provid ed in accord ance with M e thod 3 of R60 2.10.3 o n a ll s heathable I a re as of a ll exterio r walls, a nd interior braced wall lines, where requi red, including areas above and below openings, braced wall pa nel lengths shall be in accord ance w ith Table R602.10.5. Wood stru c tura l panel s heathing s ha ll be insta ll ed a t corn ers in accordance with Figu re R602.10.5. R602.10.6 Alternate braced wall panels. Alternate braced wall lines constructed in accordance with one of th e follow- ing provisions s hall be pe rmitted to replace each 4 feet (1219 mm) of braced wall panel as required by Section R602.10.4: 1. In one-story buildings, each pa ne l shall have a le ngth of no t less than 2 feet, 8 inches (813 mm) a nd a height of not more than 10 feet (3048 mm). Each panel s hall be s heath ed on one face w ith 3/g-inc h-minimum-thick- ness (9.5 mm) wood st ru ctural pa nel sheathing nai led with 8d common or galva ni zed box na ils in accor- dance with Tabl e R 602.3(1) a nd bloc ked at a ll wood structural pane l s heathing edges. Two anchor bolts installed in acco rd a nce w ith Figure R403.1(1) shall be provided in each pane l. Anchor bolts s ha ll be placed at panel quarter points. Each pa ne l end stud s hall have a tie-d own dev ice fa stened to the foundation, c apa ble of providing an uplift capacity of at least 1,800 pounds (816.5 kg). The ti e -down device s hall b e in stall ed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommenda- tio ns. The panels s ha ll be s upported directly on a found a ti o n or on floor fr aming s upport e d directl y on a foundation w hic h is co ntinuo us acr oss th e e ntire length of the brace d wall line. This foundation s ha ll be re inforced with not less than one No.4 b a r top a nd bot- to m. When the continu o us foundation is require d to h ave a depth greater th a n 12 inches (305 mm), a mini- mum 12-inch-by-12-in ch (305 mm by 305 mm) con- tinuous footing or turned dow n s la b edge is pe rmitted at do or o pe nings in th e b ra ced wall line. This continu- o us footing o r turned down s lab e dge shall be re in- forced w ith no t less th a n one No.4 b ar top and bottom. This re inforceme nt sha ll be lapped 15 inc hes (381 mm) with th e re info rcement required in the continu- o us foundation located directl y under the braced wall li 2 .
