Subject: Knox Aircraft Hanger
Mr. Knox;
I have reviewed the plans for the Knox Aircraft Hanger. The structure is type VB
construction and meets or exceeds the requirements of International Fire Code 2009
Edition Section 914.8 and NFPA 409. This building falls under the requirements for
Group III as stated in NFPA 409 for hangar fire suppression requirements. If any
hazardous operations, including fuel transfer, welding, torch cutting or torch smoldering,
doping and spray painting, are performed in any way this Group III hangar shall meet the
fire protection requirements of a Group 11 hangar as per NFPA 409 Chapter 8 section
8.9.1. The plans are in order to begin construction from the Fire Districts involvement
with this project.
Even with the Fire Districts review of the plans it is the responsibility of the
owner to make sure the building complies with the International Fire Code 2009 Edition.
If you should have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Deputy Fire Chief — Operations
