Curtice Street Littleton, CO 80120 Re: Complaint of Oxenberg to Garfield County Regarding Gravel Pit Operation Dear Helen: This afternoon 1 attended a meeting at the Garfield County Commissioners' hearing room. The purpose of the meeting was to allow the commissioners to hear the report of Leonard Bowlby, County Road Superintendent, and Teri Bowman, of the Garfield County Planning Department, regarding recent progress in alleviat- ing the problems causing the complaint about the gravel pit on your ranch south of Glenwood Springs. Leonard Bowlby reported that the watering of the road to keep down the dust was much improved. He also reported that there was immediate improvement in eliminating the dust at the site of the crushing plant. Of course, the county commissioners expressed the opinion that they wanted this situation continuously monitored so that the present watering efforts become a long-term solution rather than a short- term expediency. There was considerable interest among the commissioners in Mr. Bowlby's statement that Howard Vagneur of Ram Construction and Greg Miner of Fox Concrete had offered to explore the possibility of building a one -lane bridge across the river to Highway 82. There are mixed feelings among the commissioners about adding another bridge across the river. However, since your tenants had offered to explore the possibility, the commissioners requested that they try and get some sort of rough cost estimate for such a project. The commissioners apparently feel that if your tenants are sincere in going ahead with such a bridge project that they might consider either, supporting the project, or, requesting that the efforts or funds for such a.project be channeled toward a joint venture with the county involving the improvement of Road 109 and the Hardwick bridge. Helen Bond Page 2 In any event, the county asked that Sievers give them a further report in approximately three months and that at such time we have some sort of rough cost estimate on the bridge pro- ject. For this purpose you will need to contact Fox Concrete and Ram Construction and ask them if they could possibly furnish you with such a cost estimate. I am sending a copy of this letter to Teri Bowman as a re- minder that a meeting should be set before the county in September, at which time any progress on the investigation of the bridge pro- ject will be reported, and a further review on the dust problem will be made. Referral to the Planning Commission: Special Use Permit for a limestone quarry located approximately one mile north of Glenwood Springs. Applicant: Mid -Continent Resources, Inc. This request will be heard by the Planning Commission on July 7, 1982. The public hearing is scheduled for the Board on July 12, 1982 at 9:00 A.M.
