Antero Resources Piceance Cors has been actirey pzsuing natumi gas development plans in the area of
Battlement Mesa, Colorado for the past 2 years. Upon concluding extensive surface use negotiations with
Battlement Mesa Partners, the prima -7 surrace owner within the Be -Clement Mesa Planned Unit Development
(PUD), we held a public information session as a roll - out of our planis to the public. During that introduction,
Antero advised we would be undataking the vole Comprehensive Drilling Plan (CDP) process provided
for under the revised Colorado Oil and Gas C 'va tion Coni nission (COGCC) rules as the primary
permitting route. We also provided notification we would in the mea ritime permit two wens inside the PUD for,
drilling this year outside of the CDP framework ming conventional, but updated permitting provisions. As
such, last week, Antero applied for ptits to SII tem w is from eta: of the well pads in the PIM.
*Last Thursday, June 11, 2009, Antero representatives met with the Garfield County Planning Department staff
regarding our proposed natural gas plans in the atm of Battlement Rasa, Colorado. At the meeting, Antero was
advised that 1) the County will rem the project to go tgnugh a :itlejor impact review, 2) the mi imtun time
requirements for pursuing such a review w- d ^e tea 120 days, and 3) a subsequent second review
would also be needed for, the CDP. The reason ; the two early wells was to meet lease dolling commitments
arsd to realize work product from financial commiener Antero riade last year for a contract drilling rig.
Given the lengthy period for a major impact review and the timing of our obligations, Antero needs to pursue
drilling from an alternate well pad located on a site immediately adjacent to the south side of the PUD.
Antero plans to submit applications for permits todrill wells from this alternate well pad within the next few
days. The location of the alternate well pad will not require a special use review by the County and will allow
Arden to include the County's review and concerns into our enter: CDP. By pursuing the alternate well pad
outside the PUD and delaying activities on the well pad inside of the I'UD, it will alleviate the need for the
County to review the overall project a second time, while still ;k11owing Antero to meet our contractual
obligations for the lease and use the rig we ah ady have under coverlet.
We look forward to working with Garfield Couree an this project. Please call me at 303-357-7310 if I can
provide any additional information. • -
