'We'll work through it to achieve the necessary l-hr rating for the individual sleeping quarters. For clarification, we believe we only need a 20 min rated door due to the following. Would you agree? Thanks, Sarah 420.2 Separation Walls V/alls separating dwelling units in the same building, walls separating sleeping units in the same building and walls separating dwelling or sleeping units from other occupancies contiguous to them in the same building shall be constructed as fire partitions in accordance with Section 708. The intent of the code is to provide some added protection to people that might be sleeping from activities or conditions within the rest of the structure. This protection is in the form of the fire partitions and rated doors. The orange areas I think could be "beefed up" fire rating wise with added sheetrock on one side. This might mess up the door framing, but the existing doors I assume are not3/¿hr. rated (Table716.5) and will need to be changed out anyway. Verification of membrane and through penetrations of the fire rated assemblies apply with the existing construction. One could possibly evaluate the existing construction in orange for fire rating as per section 722.6 assuming the exact construction can be determined. Even I can do the math. Reason being that the walls are already installed. We're very close to achieving the required rating on all walls, but do not have the corridor walls rated as shown in the attached diagram (conidor walls include one layer of gyp oll one side and wood sheathing on the other (no rating). The building is equipped with smoke detectors and the sleeping rooms would be equipped with carbon monoxide detectors as well. See also Section 420 of the2015 IBC. As long as the R unit is less than 1000 sq.ft, a sprinkler is not required but is recommended in the building. A single station smoke alarm is required as well as carbon monoxide alarms and egress as per Sec 1030. The above areas should be addressed in a building permit amendment. As Mike Patch discussed with you earlier this year, the Owner is hoping to put bunk beds in the Changing Rooms in this building for the 1-2 weeks out of the year when they have catered events on the property for caterers to be on the premise. Mike relayed to me that you noted this should be a simple Land Use Change. In starting to fill out the Land Use Change Permit Application, and after reviewing Table 4-201in Garfield County's Land Use Code, I am having difficulty determining what type of application this would be (and what the relevant submiftal requirements would be).
