SE Job No. 29115 Parcel No. 2185-353-01-007 Garfield County Permit No. 4652 Dear Mr.& Mrs. Horning: Pursuant to County Regulations, this letter provides documentation that the new Onsite Wastewater System (OWS) recently installed is in general compliance with the permitted design. Sopris Engineering has documented the as - built conditions of the constructed system. We have performed site inspections and as -built survey. The system was inspected prior to backfilling and after component installations were complete. The as -built conditions and installation of the new OWS components is in compliance with the permitted design specifications for the system. The upgraded system is designed to treat sewage from a 4-bedrom home. The System was installed in accordance with State and County Regulations; the design presented in the Sopris Engineering design drawing, specifications and details, dated May 20, 2009. A new 1000 gallon, dual compartment concrete septic tank was installed in series adjacent to the existing 600+/- gallon concrete septic tank located off the southwest side of the house. The 1000 -gallon dual compartment concrete septic tank has been installed with an effluent filter installed in the outlet tee and an inlet sanitary tee. The existing 600+/- gallon tank serves as the primary solids holding tank. The new installed tanks risers have watertight lids that rise to the newly graded surface. The risers are 24" and provide access to all the tank compartments. A portion of the existing gravity line from the house to the tank was replaced and a two-way was cleanout has been installed near the house. The existing field is assumed to have approximately 483 S.F. of absorption area and was permitted in 1984 under County permit number 1387. The field will continue to be used, however flow to it from the distribution box will be controlled through a flow control regulator that will allow splitting of peak flows to the two fields. The new Geotextile Sand Filter (GSF) field was constructed with 1 bed containing, 3 rows of 9 Elgen In -Drain units, for a total of 27 units. The three rows are each 1' apart with concrete filter sand between placed in between the units. The field is approximately 9' wide by 37' long These in -drain units are placed over 24" of select concrete filter sand over scarified native soil, free of organic material and rocks over 3 inches in diameter. The top of the sand basal area is approximately 252 sq ft based upon design calculations. The Elgen in -drain units were installed at a level grade. A distribution box was installed adjacent to the new tank to split flow between the existing and new absorption fields. The discharge pipes from the D -box are equipped with flow controllers and the box has an adequate riser with the access lids just below finish grade. The effluent pipe to the new field connects to a manifold pipe that allows for equal distribution across the three in -drain rows. The effluent is distributed along each row of In -Drain units by individual, 4" perforated laterals placed over the centerline of the units. The perforations in the distribution lines are installed at 5 and 7 o'clock to ensure equal distribution. The In -drain units are installed per manufacturer's requirements. The treatment units, sand layer and distribution pipe is covered with filter fabric. The bed has been backfilled with excavated material with a slightly mounded finish grade approximately 24"-30" above the distribution pipe. The construction was completed utilizing specified materials installed according to design. The constructed field is being re -vegetated and the mound provides positive drainage off and away from the field. Attached is an as -built record drawing of the installed system. 502 Main Street • Suite A3 • Carbondale, CO 81623 • (970) 704-0311 • Fax (970) 704-0313 SOPRIS ENGINEERING • LLC civil consultants Horning Residence SE Job No. 29115 November 11, 2009 Page 2 OWS Operation and Maintenance All components of the engineered OWS shall be inspected on a regular basis and be properly maintained. The reestablishment of vegetative cover over the field and responsibility for operation, inspection and maintenance of the system will remain with the Lot Owner or the owner's representative. The owner shall periodically inspect the OWS and perform all maintenance and repairs as necessary to ensure that the system is in good operating condition and performing as designed. The OWS should require minimal maintenance. Several factors influencing the need for maintenance include: actual wastewater flows versus design flows, the volume of kitchen/domestic waste (excluding human waste and toilet paper), excessive household chemicals and other toxic liquids. The tank, sanitary tees and effluent filter should be visually inspected bi-annually for clogging debris, damage, leaks, or other potential problems. In general, for a properly utilized system, septic tanks should be pumped and inspected every 2-4 years. The effluent filter should be cleaned every six months and at the time of pumping. Absorption fields should be maintained with suitable vegetative cover and kept free of root invasive plants. Positive surface drainage away from the absorption field should be maintained. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please call. Sincerely, SOPRIS ENGINEERING, LLC Paul E. Rutledge Design
