Subject: On -Site Wastewater Treatment System Design,
Lot 28 Rapids View Lane
At your request, on June. 22, 2017 Capstone. Enterprises West, LLC directed and
observed the excavation of the test pits to evaluate onsite soils for design of an On -Site
Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS). The suitability of soils was evaluated by
performing a percolation test, as prescribed by the Garfield County regulations.
The results of the soil evaluation and the OWTS design are presented in this report. If
you have any questions, or if we may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact us.

Geologically, the bedrock in the area is the Molina Member of the Wasatch Formation.
This unit is made up of sandstone and mudstone. At this site the bedrock has been
capped with alluvial sediments from the Colorado River that borders the subdivision to
the north. The sediments overlaying the bedrock change gradation from gravel with
boulders to sandy silty clay. The contacts between the different soil types are quite
distinct.
Ground water was encountered in TP -1 at 8.0 feet below the surface. There was no
evidence of a seasonal water table above this elevation. It should be noted that runoff at
the time was quite high and the river was near seasonal high.
PERCOLATION TEST
Due to the rocky nature of the soils in the -zone .selected for the absorption, it was impossible to
dig a posthole for a percolation test. Visual and tactile examination of the soils indicated that the
gravel above the water table were suitable soils, the gravel's matrix was fine grain sand.
Capstone performed a gradation test to assess the nature of the soils. The gradation curve is
presented on the following page.
Based on the percentage of rock, this absorption bed will need to be a replacement soil bed. The
accepting soil has a Long Term Acceptance Rate (LTAR) of 0..8, Capstonerecommends the rate
be reduced to 0.5 due to percentage of rock.

WASTE WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM DESIGN
A single dwelling is planned for this site ("2,400 square feet). The residence at this site
is planned to be a four (4) bedroom dwelling. Using the guidelines in the Garfield
County On -Site Wastewater Treatment System Regulations. Effective Date: June 30,
2014, (OWTSR) the following sewage flow calculations were prepared:
MAIN HOUSE
Base flow 150 gallons per bedroom * 4 Q =600 gal. /day
Once again using the OWTSR the absorption area was calculated.
Where: A= Absorption Area in, square feet
Q = Design Flow of sewage in gallons/day
LTAR = Long Term Acceptance Rate (From Table 10.1, OWTSR)
Q 600
A = _ = 1,200 SQ.FT.
LTAR 0.5
Base Area 1,200 sq. ft.
Size Adjustment Factors
Pressurized Bed 1.0
Chambers 0.7
Total Absorption Bed Area 840 sq. ft.
A single 12 foot wide by 70 foot long absorption bed is required. A single 1,250 gallon
septic tank and a 500 gallon pump vault are required for this system. The following
drawings show the general arrangement and the construction details.
PUMP SYSTEM
For the 70 foot Tong laterals with 0.25' holes spaced every 4 feet the pump must supply
90 gpm at 19 feet of total dynamic head. An Orenco Model PFSW10012-B has been
specified for this application. The pump curve is presented on the following page.
