A review of the professionally engineered plans, filed with the referenced
building permit application, for conformance to UBC requirements and
local amendments thereto, is complete to a level customary for the trade.
Permit approval allows the construction of a new single-family dwelling
described as:
Main Floor -LR, DR, K.itchen, Family/Breakfast Room, 1/2 Bath, Laundry

to be field enforced, the design reasonably conforms to minimum
requirements of the UBC:
1. A Colorado licensed, professional engineer has stamped the plans,
which include the following unconventional systems:

structural notes, on sheet 7 of the plans, reference is made to the
"Unburned Clay Masonry" amendment to Sec. 2405 of the UBC, by the
State of New Mexico, intended for adobe construction. This dwelling
is proposed to be "semi-stabi 1 ized" "Earthen Construct ion'', as
classified by that amendment The adobe bricks will be
manufactured by a standardized process in New Mexico and protected
on the exterior with rigid foam and a stucco finish.
B. Structural beams of ungraded native logs are also designed for
portions of the roof framing. Conservative strength properties
were assumed for the timber, and spans appeared reasonable.
C. The foundation system is a foam form product called "Ice Block".
This product has been approved by BOCA but has not yet received
ICBO approval. The structural capabilities of the system have been
documented by the manufacturer and presumably considered by the
engineer. Since the foam plastic forms are to be exposed in the
crawl space, compliance with UBC Sec. 1712 must also be
determined. Please review the test results and BOCA evaluation
report provided by the product manufacturer to determine if the
material can be exposed in a crawl space without a thermal barrier.
No valuation was provided on the application. Based on the square footage
costs from Building Standards (Mar./ Apr., 1 993) for "average" quality
masonry construction and applying the Colorado modifier (0.81 ), the
estimated valuation is $122,536.
Approval of the plans is recommended and, upon verification of compliance
with local regulations outside the scope of the UBC, issuance of the
building permit If there are any questions regarding this "approval",

were installed in accorda:m>e with the installation manual.
The co11crete was poured i11to tI'.i.e forms with a pmnp truck and the i11di~vidual cores
were rodded to allow for consolidation of the concrete throughout the form.
