Dear Mr. Ward,
The following is a list of fire department requirements
which will need to be addressed before you occupy your new
building on Mel Ray Road. These requirements pertain to the
occupancy being used as an auto repair garage and may not
encompass all requirements if the building is to be used for
other purposes.
I. One fire extinguisher with a rating of 4A 4013C needs to be
installed and located in an accessible area along a normal path
of exit. This extinguisher needs to be mounted no higher than 5
feet above the ground. (Uniform Fire Code Standards 10-1)
2. Approved oil separators or traps to be located in the floor
drain. (U.F.C. 29.104 b)
8. Self closing metal cans need to be installed for storage of
all oily rags. (U.F.C. 29.104 c)
4. Heating equipment shall not be installed within 18 inches of
the floor. (U.F.C. 29.105 b and U.B.C.)
5. Welding or cutting shall not be done in areas or locations
where flammable liquids, vapors, dust or combustible stock is
located. W.F.C. 49.107 k)
6. If waste oil is to be stored on site, plans for such storage
must be submitted to the fire and building officials for
approval.
7. A list of flammable liquids and their quanities and all
M.S.D.S. sheets must be availabe for inspection. The amount of
fIammafble IiquTa on -- site must be- known 5 e f o r e storage
requirements can be assessed.
8. Any change in use or occupancy of the building requires
notification of the fire and building officials.
