Sopris Engineering inspected the excavations and the installation of system components at various times during construction prior to final backfill. The system constructed on site was designed and built to serve the needs of the newly constructed 3-bcdroom house. Soprls Engineering performed visits to inspect and documenr the as built conditions of the constructed system. We have coordinated our efforts with the system instllller. The as built conditions and installation of the new OWS components is in compliance with the pennitted design specifications for the system. The System was installed in accordance with Garfield County Regulations; the design presented in the Sopris Engineering design drawin& dated October 10, 2003 and the reporl dated August 5, 2002. A 2000-gallon dual compartment concrete septic tank was insralled with a duples pump vault dosing system with automatic controls. The absorption field was constructed with a total of 56 standard leacbin& chambers in 2 absorption beds. The !on& beds are configured with 2 rows of 14 chambers each. The chambers were placed over 12" of sand overlying approximately 1·2 feel of onsit11-screened pit run type inaterlal. The chambets were backfilled with screened native soil. The beds were installed level. Inspection pons were installed on each row at the end chamber. The effluent is pumped from the tank to a pressurized header pipe that discharge to individual 4" perforated distribution laterals installed along the length of each row. The chambers were installed in suitable soils consistent across the field. No sround water was encountered to a depth of 10 feet. The septic tank, dual pump dosing vault assembly, distribution piping, and the absorption field was constructed utilizing specified materials and installed according to design. The minimum setback distances have been maintained. OWS Operation and Maintenance All components of the engineered OWS shall be inspected on a regular basis.and be properly maintained. The re establishment of vegetative cover over the field and reSp011$ibility for inspection and maintenance of the system will remain with the Lot Owner or the owners representative. The owner shall periodically inspect the OWS and to perform all maintenance and repairs as necessary to ensure that the system is in good operating condition and performing as designed. The OWS should require minimal maintenance. Several factors influencing the need for maintenance include: actual wastewater flows versus design flows, the volume of kitchen/domestic waste (excluding human waste and toilet paper), excessive houseb.old chemicals and other toxic liquids. The tank, sanitary tees and effluent filter should be visually lllspected bi-annually for clogging debris, damage, leaks, or other I 502 Main Street • Suite A3 •Carbondale, CO 81623 • (970) 704-0311 • Fax (970) 704-0313 I SOPRIS ENGINEERING llC civil consultants E1E0-1>0L-0L6 ll:60 !>00l/01/60 l0 3911d t '" : " Jeff Britt SE Job No. 22123.01 September l 0, 2004 Page 2 potential problems. In general, for a properly utili2ed system, septic tanks should be pumped and inspected every 2 - 4 yearS. The effluent filter should be cleaned every six months and 11.t the time of pumping. Absorption fields should be maintained with suitable vegetative cover and kept free of root invasive plants. Positive surface drainage away from the absorption field should be maintained.
