SITE CONDITIONS The drain field location is located southwesterly of the residence. Prior to construction, the natural terrain sloped at a grade of eleven percent from north to south and was covered in native vegetation consisting of grasses and sagebrush. RESIDENCE DESIGN The current residence bas three bedrooms and two and one half bathrooms. Two future bedrooms may be constructed, at which time the septic system will be enlarged to accommodate the increased flows. The basis for the current design, however, is limited to accommodate three bedrooms. SUBSURFACE CONDmONS A subsurface investigation was performed on August 24, 2002 by excavating three percolation test holes, approximately 35 to 47 inches deep and one profile pit at the locations indicated on the attached plan Figure 1. Subsurfilce materials in the profile pit consisted of approximately six inches of topsoil underlain by approximately eighteen inches of slightly clayey, gravelly sand and cobbles. Beneath was gravelly, silty sand with cobbles (slightly calcareous) down to a maximlDJl depth of eight feet. No ground water was encountered in the profile hole. Percolation tests perfonned in the area ranged from seven minutes per inch {MPI) to thirteen MPI and the average percolation rate was approximately ten MPI. Pen:olation test results are shown in Table 1 attached. p. 1 1 Ma~ 13 03 07:32a May 12, 2003 Mr. Tim Holiday Page2of2 HANS E. BRUCKER PROPOSED DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION 9709239694 PINNACLE DESIGN CONSUL TING GROUP, INC. Based on the bedroom count and the percolation rates observed, the system requires a minimum infiltrative area of 684 square feet according to the minimum, drain field area requirements fur individual residences in Garfield County. Standard Infiltrator units were chosen to construct the absorption trenches. Three individual trenches were built using graveness chambers. Each trench contains sixteen Standard Infiltrator units fur a total of 750 square feet (6.25 feet x 2.5 feet x 48 units = 750 square :feet). I decided to slightly over design the absorption field to provide more treatment area than the minimum required by Garfield County. As mentioned earlier, future bedrooms, when added to the house, will require an even larger absorption field area. However, the 1,500- gallon, double compartment, septic tank that was installed is si7.ed to accommodate two additional bedrooms. Cleanouts were provided fur the line running from the house to the septic tank. Inspection ports were also installed at the beginning and ends of the seepage trenches. Finished grade over the septic trenches is flatter than the natural grade and averages approximately five percent. In addition, the area was regarded as much as possible to prevent surfuce water from running toward the seepage trenches. SYSTEM INSPECTON The final septic system was installed in accordance with Garfield County standards and specifications. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or comments.
