Attn: Marc Jaffiey P.O.Box499 New Castle, Colorado 81647 Subject: Subsurface Investigation and Percolation Test, Proposed Residence Amended Lot 37, Combined LaFrenz Subdivision Garfield County, Colorado Job No. 15779W Mr. Jaffrey, As requested, we performed a subsurface investigation and a percolation test at the subject site. The purpose of our investigation was to determine subsurface conditions and percolation rates for an Onsite Wastewater System (OWS). The subsurface investigation was performed on JW)e 10, 2003. SITE CONDIDONS The lot is located in a rural residential area in Garfield County, Colorado, where OWS are required The lot was vacant at the time of our investigation. The location of the profile pit and percolation holes is pre- sented on Figure l. The ground slopes approximately 5% to the southwest in the area for the proposed OWS. A full cover of irrigated grass exists on the lot SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION A subsurface investigation was performed by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes 30 to 40 inches deep at the locations indicated on Figure 1. The depth of the percolation holes was determined by the anticipated receiving soils, which is the silty sand soil. Subsurface materials in the profile pit consisted of silty sandy topsoil to 1.5 feet, underlain by silty sand, with occasional gravel and cobbles to the maximum depth explored of 9 feet No ground water was encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 16 to 32 minutes per inch (MPI). The average percolation rate is 24 MPI. Percolation Test Results are attached as Table 1. LIMITATIONS Our investigation is based on data submitted and conditions encountered. If subsurface conditions considerably different from those descnbed in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effect on the proposed OWS. Subject: Onsite Wastewater System (OWS) Design Recommendations, Proposed Residence Amended Lot 37, Combined LaFrenz Subdivision Garfield County, Colorado Job No. 15779W Mr. Jaffrey, Church & Associates, Inc. (CHURCH) performed a subsurface investigation and a percolation test at the subject site on June 10, 2003. As requested, we are providing OWS design recommendations based on our investigation. Garfield County may specify OWS sizing parameters. SITE CONDffiONS The lot is located in a rural residential area in Garfield County, Colorado, where OWS are required. The lot is vacant. The ground slopes approximately 5% to the southwest in the area for the proposed OWS. A full cover of irrigated grass exists on the lot. PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION A five-bedroom, single-family residence is proposed at the site. In accordance with the Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) regulations, the sewage load for a five-bedroom residence is 750 gallons per day (GPD). The peak sewage loading is 1,125 GPD using a 1.5 peaking factor. If the residence will be served water by an onsite well, the well must be located l lo+ feet from the proposed drain field area. SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION A subsurface investigation was performed by CHURCH on June 10, 2003 and was presented under separate cover. Subsurface materials in the profile pit consisted of silty sandy topsoil to 1.5 feet, underlain by silty sand, with occasional gravel and cobbles to the maximum depth explored of 9 feet. No ground water was encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 16 to 32 minutes per inch (MPI). The average percolation rate is 24 MPI. Percolation Test Results are attached as Table 1. RECOMMENDATIONS One 1500-gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank with an effluent filter on the outlet, and 558 square feet of drain field in three graveness trenches is recommended per Garfield County sizing DENVER 4501 Wadsworth Boulevard Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 303.463.9317 Fax: 303 463 9321 ., ' . • • . ' ' ows Design Letter Job No. J5n9W, 713103 Page 2 criteria Each trench must have 12 gravelless chambers. Six feet of Wldisturbed soil should remain between each trench. A concrete distribution box or serial distribution may be used to distribute effluent to the trenches. Garfield County must be contacted upon the completion of the OWS. LIMITATIONS Our investigation is based on data submitted and conditions encountered. If subsurface conditions considerably different from those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effect on the proposed OWS. The system was designed under our Job No. 15779, dated July 3, 2003. The components of the OWS included one 1500-gallon two-compartment precast concrete septic tank with an efiluent filter, followed by 1149 square feet of drain field. The drain field consisted of three rows of 12 EQ-36 Infiltrator™ Chambers, for a total of36 chambers. A distribution box distributed efiluent to the trenches. The OWS was designed to accommodate five bedrooms, although the installed drain field has been oversized and can accommodate additional bedrooms. If the owner is anticipating future construction, our office should be contacted to evaluate the septic tank capacity, as well as verify drain field size criteria. The components of the OWS design were installed in general conformance with plans and specifications. Our installation observations do not imply a guarantee or warranty of materials or workmanship. If there are questions or if we may be of further service, please call. 7:~~ Timothy R.
