The installation included the existing 1000 -gallon precast concrete septic tank, followed by a 1000 - gallon two-compartment concrete septic tank with the addition of an effluent filter. The installed drain field consisted of 2 rows of 13 gravelless `Quick -4' chambers, for a total of 26 chambers, and 257 SF of infiltrative area. A distribution box was installed to distribute effluent. The existing 1122 SF drain field has been incorporated into the OWS, for a total area of 1379 SF. The OWS was installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWS. Please call with questions. Sincerely, ALL SERyICJ septic, LLC Timothy R. The property is located near Carbondale, in an area where OWS are necessary. This letter is to be used in conjunction with plans provided. SITE CONDITIONS A three-bedroom residence with an OWS exists at the site. The existing OWS consists of a 1000 - gallon, concrete septic tank and a seepage bed with a total area of 1122 ft2, as recorded in Garfield County Building and Sanitation Department Septic Permit No. 2418, dated April 25, 1995. The exact dimensions of the seepage bed or exact locations of the OWS components were not reported in the permit. A two-bedroom attached addition is proposed for the site. The proposed drain field area has an approximate 5% slope to the northwest. Water is provided by the local water district. SUBSURFACE The percolation rate of 16.3 minutes per inch (MPI) used for this design was obtained from Septic Permit No. 2418. No subsurface conditions are listed on the permit. Soil conditions common in the area consist of silty, clayey, sands with colluvial cobbles and boulders. No ground water or bedrock is expected in the area of the proposed drain field. A test pit may be needed to confirm subsurface conditions prior to installation of the proposed OWS. Onsite Wastewater System Page 2 DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 5 bedrooms, an average daily sewage load of 750 GPD, and an application rate of 0.72 gals/SF/day. The septic tank installation includes the existing 1000 -gallon, concrete septic tank followed by a new 500 -gallon, concrete septic tank with an effluent filter on the outlet. 1122 ft2 of infiltrative area exists in a seepage bed. A new 12 -foot by 40 -foot seepage bed with an infiltrative area of 480 ft2 must be installed and incorporated with the existing drain field, as indicated on plans provided. Total proposed infiltrative area is 1602 ft2. A distribution box must be used to split flows, with two outlets serving the existing drain field and one outlet serving the proposed drain field. If chamber -trenches are preferred, 26 'quick-4TM' chambers may be installed. Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Garfield County Building and Sanitation Depattment, and this design. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Septic tank risers should extend to grade. Access to all tank compat latents and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. Onsite Wastewater Systems rage $ This evaluation is not a guarantee of future drain field performance. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWS or the residence. Sincerely, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC Timothy R. Petz, P.G.
