Subsurface conditions were investigated September 13, 2004. SITE CONDITIONS AND PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION The site is a 39.2 -acre Jot located in a rural area near Rifle Gap reservoir where OWS and wells are necessary. The drain field area is relatively fiat. Ground cover consists of native grasses. A 3 - bedroom, single-family residence is proposed in the area indicated on Figure 1. In accordance with the Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISLES) regulations, the sewage load for a 3 -bedroom residence with 2 persons perbedroom is to be 450 gallons per day (GPD). The peak sewage loading is 675 GPD using a 1.5 peaking factor. If the owner is anticipating finishing of additional bedrooms in unfinished areas, we recommend the OWS be constructed to handle the additional loading. The installation of a properly sized OWS to serve future build -out- can be cost effective_ All Service Septic should be contacted to revise this design, if additional bedrooms are proposed. SUBSURFACE Subsurface conditions were investigated by digging a profile hole and three percolation holes at the locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface conditions at Profile 1 consist of 6 -inches of clayey topsoil, underlain by sandy clay to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. Free water was not encountered in Profile 1. Percolation test results indicate percolation rates from 120 minutes per inch (MPT) to 180 MPI and an average percolation rate of 160 MPI. OWS Design Project No. 1029 Page 2 DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 3 bedrooms, an average sewage load of 450 GPD and an application rate of 0.19 gallons per square foot (SF) per day. The application rate is based on evapotranspiration and absorption. The installation must include a 1250 -gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank with a pump in a Biotube® vault in the second compartment, as presented on Figure 4, Five 10 -foot by 100 -foot sections of drip irrigation field must be installed for a total area of 5000 SF. Distribution valves must be used to distribute effluent to the drain field. The OWS should be constructed similar to Figures 2 through}. As a tank alternative, two 1000 -gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tanks, with a filter on the outlet of the first tank, and a pump in the second compartment of the second tank, may be used. All construction should be in accordance with the ISDS regulations, the septic permit from Garfield -County Health Department and this design. The surface of the field should be seeded after installation of the system to reduce erosion and provide plant transpiration. A seed mix should be used, such as "Foothills, Pasture, or Prairie" mixes, which are available at seed stores. These mixes do not require irrigation. Do not irrigate over drain field. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS The installation of the OWS is to be observed by the design engineer and the county. An observation is required prior to backfill. At that time, the septic tank is to be installed with risers on the tank, and inlet and outlet connections properly bedded. The drain field is to be ready for backfill with dispersal pipes in place. Other components such as distribution valves, effluent filters or pumping systems, as applicable, will be observed at that time. The installation observations will be invoiced separately and are not included in design fees. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAD /TENANCE The owner must assume responsibility for maintenance of the system. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. Livestock and automobile traffic should be kept off the drain field at all times. No landscaping or plastic can be used over the drain field that will reduce the performance of the drain field. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for residence waste only. The drain field should not be irrigated. LIMITS: A low-pressure drip irrigation system requires installation by a contractor who is experienced in its installation. If conditions different from those described in this report are encountered, we should be called to observe the conditions. Pipe type and size, burial requirements, septic tank construction, and other specifications that are not depicted in our report are to conform to the requirements of the ISDS regulations. The installer of the system is to be approved by the county health department, and is to have demonstrated knowledge of the ISDS regulations and requirements. The test was performed in accordance with Garfield County Regulations. The percolation test was performed in the drain field excavation to determine the percolation rate at the infiltrative surface. EXISTING CONDITIONS AND STRUCTURES The subject property is located in a rural residential area where Onsite Wastewater Systems (OWS) and wells/cisterns are necessary. The existing residence and OWS is under construction. The slope at the area of the drain field is relatively flat, and vegetation consists of a native grasses. SUBSURFACE The percolation test consisted of three percolation holes, at the locations indicated on Figure 1. The materials in the percolation holes consisted of sandy clay. Groundwater or bedrock was not encountered. Percolation rates averaged 80 minutes per inch (MPI). LIMITS: Results are based on field investigations and data provided by the client.
