11-203 SIGN PERMIT REVIEW CRITERIA
Section 11-301 Incorporation of the Uniform Sign Code. The Uniform
Sign Code, 1979 Edition, of the International Conference of Chief Building
Officials, including all appendices, is hereby adopted by the County to provide
minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by
regulating and controlling the design, quality of materials, construction, location,
size, electrification and maintenance of all sign structures not located in a
building. Section 303.3 of the Uniform Sign Code, 1979 Edition, is hereby
deleted. In the even of conflict between the regulatory provisions of the Uniform
Sign Code and the Land Use Code, the more restrictive provisions shall control.

A. The Sign Table details the regulatory provisions for signs in each zone
district.

SIGN FACE CHANGE
APPLICATION
IMPORTANT: This application may only be used for changes to a sign face that do
not involve an alteration to a sign structure. The Glenwood Springs Municipal
Code defines a sign strncture and sign alteration as follows:
Sign structure means any supports, uprights, braces or framework of a sign.
Structural alteration means any physical change to the structure of a sign.
A standard sign permit (not a sign face change application) is required to erect, construct,
enlarge, alter, move, improve, remove, convert, demolish, equip or use any sign or sign
structure in the City.
A sign permit is not necessary for the following activities:
a. Preventative maintenance. The ordinary preventative maintenance of a lawfully
existing sign which does not involve a change of placement, size, lighting or height.
b. Repainting. The repainting of a lawfully existing sign.
c. Changes of copy. The changing of copy on theater marquees, reader boards and similar
signs on permitted or existing legal nonconforming signs.
IF.THE SIGN PROPOSED FOR A FACE CHANGE WAS NOT ISSUED A SIGN PERMIT
AFTER MARCH 6, 1997, THE SIGN MAY BE A NON-CONFORMING SIGN. A CHANGE
TO THE SIGN FACE SHALL NOT CONSTITUTE THE ISSUANCE OF A PERMIT TO
LEGALIZE SAID SIGN.
