STRUCTURAL CONSULTANTS 5012 County Road 154 Phone (970) 945 6305 Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 MEMORANDUM To: County of Garfield Attn: Building Department Date: Nov. Ol,2Ol7 Re: Darren Gallegos Residence, 394 Silver King Court, Garfield County, CO. Our office is the structural engineer of record for the noted proposed residence, and as such, has issued construction documents for the residence dated March A7,2017 . Mr. Gallegos requested that we review a series of plumbing penetrations in the main floor framing. All of the penetrations affected ll.718" deep wood manufactured "I" joists. In (3) locations the plumber drilled vertical holes which cut the top flange of a "I" joist: l. At the powder room floor (toilet) he cut ll2" into the top chord at a point 22.1/2" from the south bearing wall. 2. At the master bathroom floor (toilet) he cut he cut 1/4" into the top chord at 6'-10" from the north bearing wall. 3. At the master bathroom floor (shower) he cut 3/8" into the top chord at l0'*0" from the north bearing wall. These cuts are small enough to be structurally acceptable without remediation. In the master bathroom I understand that the OSB webs of three (3) "I" joists were drilled with 2.1/2" diameter holes above 2.1/2" x3,l/2" oval holes. These holes are located 18" from the north bearing wall. Our office provided a repair detail for this condition. A final "I" joist of concern has a cluster of holes near the joist mid-span: the group is located 6'-10" from the near bearing wall. A 2.112" to 3" diameter hole is located in the lower half of the web, a | .112" diameter knock-out hole is approximately l.ll2" clear of the larger hole (to its left), and two (2')- 3/4" diameter holes are to the right. The (2)-314" diameter holes are approximately 2.1/2" center-to-center, and the hole neare'st the large hole is approximately l.l/2" clear of the larger hole. I recommend that the plumbing lines occupying the (2)-314" diameter holes be relocated and a 2'-4" long x 8" high OSB web reinforcement, center on and notched around the large hole be installed. This reinforcement should be glued and screwed as specifìed in the noted repaft detail. The wiring in the knock-out hole should be putled and re-installed in a l" diameter hole at the same location. The (2) plumbing lines should be relocated so that they are clear of the reinforcement and placed at least 3" clear of one another. Kurtz &" Associates, Inc. Brian J.
