Subject: Observation of Rock Removal Along Gridlines A and 3, Proposed Residence, Lot 39,
Filing 5, Elk Springs, 198 Monarch Drive, Garfield County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Schober:
As requested by Justin Soderberg, a representative of H-P/Kumar observed the footing areas along
gridlines A and 3 at the subject site on August 23,2017 for removal of basalt boulders as per the
building inspector's request. The findings of our observations and recommendations for the
foundation clesign ale presented in this report. We previously obscrved the foundation excavation at
the site and presented our findings in a report dated July 26,2017, Project No. 16-7-512. We also
observed the deck pad excavations and presented our findings in a report dated August 14,2017,
Project No. 16-7-512.
The two areas in question by the building inspector are located along gridlines A and 3, under the
master bath area. The soils exposed in the bottom of the excavation consisted of silty clayey sandy
basalt gravel and basalt boulders. A few inches of minus 3/¿ inch road base had been placed in the
footing areas and compacted. At the time of the visit to the site, there were no large basalt boulders
protruding into the footing areas and loose and disturbed material had been removed. The soil
conditions exposed in the footing areas are consistent with those previously encountered on the site
and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable bearing pressure
of 2,000 psf. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should
also be observed.
Ifyou have any questions or need further assistance, please call ou¡ office
Sincerely,
I.I-P* KUMAR
