COPY TO: Uriel Mellin O\üNER: Uriel Mellin PRESENTAT SITE: l. Brian Kurtz, Kurtz & Assoc." Inc. 2. Rebar Foreman TTIE FOLLOWING WAS OBSERVED: Our office is the structural engineer of record for the noted single family residence. As such we issued construction documents datú,lll24/2017 and revised 12/1312017. The revised drawings provided for footings on the east half of the site to be designed with a revised, lower bearing pressure. The original design was based upon all footings bearing on the basalt rock matrix soils with a mâximum design bearing pr"ri rr. = 2000 pSp. fne east half was redesigned so that the footings can bear on the natural clay soils with a naxirnum design bcaring pressure: 1200 PSF' H-P/Kuma¡, LLC is the soils engineer for the project. H-P/I(umar had observed the foundation excavation and requested that in the southeast quadrant ofthe site, that the footing bearing elevation be lowered. The contractor added two footing steps that were not shorrn on the construction documents so the footings would bear on natural clay soils" H-P/Kumar then inspected the site on 1212212017 and issued au observation rcport on 1212312017 (See aUached). Each ofthe two footing steps was approximaæly 2''0" vertically. One step occurs in thè south foundation wall, approximately 35'-0" west of the southeast colner. This step is nea¡ the center of a 9'-8" long section of 4'-0" wide footing. The second step occurs in a typical i'-0" *id" footing in the east foundation wall. The step is just south of a 3'-0" wide by 8'-6" bay. The purpose of this site observation $as to observe the excavations and formwork at the tç'o noted footing sæps. Footing sizes, footing reinforcement, and footing-to-found¿tion wall dowels were also observid at these locations. At the time of my observation the footings in the west half of the building had been pirured. For ûre east half ofthe building, all of the foundation footing reinforcement was in place and the footrng forms were in place and braced with construction stakes. The footing forms and were covered with concrete insulation blankets at the time of my observation. Upon removal of the blankets I was able to observe the formwork and reinforcement in the vicinity of the two footing steps. The excavation was free of ice and snow and deleterious m¿terial. The fooûng sizes (depth and width) were ¿Ìs specified on the construction documents. The footing reinforcement and footing-to-w¿ll dowels were as specified on the construction documents. The two footurg steps \ryere excavated, formed and reinforced in a structurally acceptâble rnanner. JAY /14 :¡ I Llf P'/("'1o/¿t7
