Subject: Excavation Observation
Epperly Barn
Venado Road
Garfield County, Colorado
Project No. GS06169.000-305
As requested, we visited the subject site on July 13, 2018. The purpose of
our site visit was to observe the soils exposed at the bottom of sub -excavated
area below planned footings for the Epperly Barn. CTL 1 Thompson, Inc. per-
formed a geotechnical investigation for the barn under this project number (report
dated September 18, 2017).
At the time of our visit, sub -excavation was completed to 2 feet below the
bottom of planned elevation footings. The soils consisted of sandy clay and
clayey sand. These soils are as anticipated from our geotechnical investigation.
No water was present in the excavation at the time of our observation. Photo-
graphs from our visit are shown on Figure 1.
While on-site, we informed the contractor (Vanguard Operating) that the
subgrade soils were suitable for placement of structural fill to support footings.
Prior to structural fill placement, the surface of the sub -grade soils should be
moisture -treated and compacted. We recommended that we return to the site to
observe and test the structural fill during placement.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with you on this project. If you
have questions or we can be of further service, please call.
Very truly yours,
