Re: Palmer Residence, Lot 26
Matt/Jim,
We have been on site and havelhad the following observations:
l. The footings supporting the 4-6x6 columns at the entry were poured too low. A.20" x
20,, x l/4" steel plate was fab¡icated with a 4"x4"x1/4" tube still riser, with the lower
portion of the plate bolted into the existing footing. Vertical legs were welded to the plate
with holes to provide through bolting of the 6x6 columns. This is an acceptable
alternative and a stronger tielconnection to the originally specified Simpson ABU 66.
2. The ridge beam over the enky/foyer was originally specified as a6x12 RC Hem Fir #l
beam. It was decided to drop the ceillng in the foyer, whioh would cover the 6x12 beam.
Therefore, this beam was revised to 3-11 7/8' micro lam/LVL beams in this space. The
bearing connection remained the same at the interior, and the beam splice occurs over the
exterior door wall with a 3" overlap for the 6xl2 (exteríor) and LVL's (interior), and
framing'sandwiched'around tlrese beams. This is an acceptable altemative to the
originally specified beam.
