The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presenied in this report. We previously conducted a subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presentrd out findings in a report dated June 29,2018, Project No. 18-7-381. The proposed construction is similar to that discussed in our previous report. We recommended spread footings bearing on natural gravel soils or compacted structural fill placed on gravel soils to reestablish design footing grade for an allowable bearing pressure of 2,000 psf. At the time of our September 5 site visit, the foundation excavation had been cut in one level from? to 4 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom of the excavation consisted of sandy clay and silt soils with scattered basalt gravel and cobbles. As per our previous report, we recommended that the soil be removed down to the natural gravel subsoils. When we returned on September 18, the fine-grained soils had been sub*excavated about 2 ta 3 feet down to the basalt gravel and cobble soils. Imported structural fill (Class 6 road base) had been placed in portions of the excavation. No free water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were slightly moist. On Septemb er 2},the structural fill under footing areas was tested for compaction by nuclear gauge method. Imported structural fill consisting of importeds/q" road base reportedly had been placed in l-foot lifts and compacted with vibratory compaction equipment. Test results showed moisture content near optimum and compaction of LOOVo+ of maximum standard Proctor density. The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered on the site and the compacted structural fill over natural gravel soils is suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable bearing pressure of 2,000 psi. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed. Variations in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could increase the risk of foundation movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavation conditions for possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter. Our services do not include determining the presence, prevention or possibility of mold or other biological contaminants (MOBC) developing in the future.
