Re : Herrala Residence
It was brought to our attention that a few items of structural concern had come up on the Herrala
Residence. The three items are:
1) The blocking shown in detail 6 on sheet S3.1 was not installed with a hanger at the concrete
wall as shown. The use of a hanger at this location is one method of supporting the blocking, but
any method that secures the blocking in place (i.e. toenailing or bearing) is an acceptable alternate.
2) The three southernmost timber columns that support the deck and roof framing have post bases
that slightly overhanging the 12"0 concrete pier that supports them. After reviewing the amount
of overhang of the post bases, the owner needs to pack grout under the 1" standoff to ensure the
three timbers have sufficient bearing support.
3) One lower floor joist in the mechanical room had the top and bottom flanges notched for a
mechanical duct. The floor framing at this joist needs to be revised per clarification C2.
