Project No. 17-7-885.A
Subject: Observation of Drilled Piers, Proposed Residence, TBD (Near 6001) County
Road 214, Garfield County, Colorado
Dear David & Kara:
As requested, a representative of H-P/Kumar observed the drilling of the drilled pier foundations
at the subject site on May 8 and 9, 2018. Our observations of the piers are attached on the
"Report of Drilled Shaft Observations". We previously conducted a subsoil study for design of
foundations at the site and presented our findings in a report dated January 24, 2018, Project No.
17-7-88.5.
The piers were drilled to the proper depths within 1% of plumb and were properly reinforced
with each pier receiving three #6 verticals with #3 ties every 12 inches. All the pier holes were
properly cleaned out and had no water in them at the time of concrete placement. Concrete was
placed the same day as the piers were drilled. We did not observe the concrete placement.
The soil and bedrock conditions -exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously
encountered on the site. Bedrock was encountered between 15 and 25 feet below the ground
surface and all piers penetrated at least 6 feet into the underlying hard claystone bedrock. Pier 10
penetrated 9 feet into hard bedrock as required by the structural engineer. In our opinion, the
piers were all properly installed in accordance with our recommendations.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call our office.
Sincerely,
H -P_ KUMAR
