Re: Horn / Fotopulos Residence

Dear Tony,
When I did a site visit in December, my husband and I noticed that both members of two -member headers were placed to the
outside of the wall, so that the insulation will be added on the inside face, rather than between the two members. My drawings had
shown the insulation between the members only to make drywall attachment easier. There is no structural reason to build it the way
it was drawn Therefore I approve of the way you had the headers framed.
My husband and I had discussed this at the time, before we came to meet with you at your store. If we had seen any reason to
object to the way the headers were framed, we would have said something at the time. But because we saw nothing wrong with it
then, we didn't bring it up
Please forward this to the Garfield County Building Department to serve as evidence that I approve of the header framing If they
need something signed, let me know and I will send it when I get home on Wednesday the 21st.

Subject: Building Permit #BLRE-08-17-4895
Tony & Susan:
I am sending this email as a follow-up to my conversation with Tony earlier today in regards to your building permit
application to rebuild a residence at 6598 Highway 82. Although I have completed my plan review for your new home,
there are a couple of outstanding items that we need to receive from you prior to release of the building permit:
• Structural Drawings — The foundation plan needs to be sealed (wet stamped/signed) by a Colorado licensed
Professional Engineer because the basement foundation walls exceed 8 -feet in height. In addition, please have
your Engineer verify the following items: Retaining wall at front of house doesn't appear to meet the 36" min.
frost depth and it may require additional steel reinforcement. (Note: All retaining walls greater than 4' height
must be stamped by a Colorado P.E.) Also, will the Structural Engineer be specifying a minimum soils bearing
capacity?
• Septic System Design — If you can provide us with a copy of the new Engineered septic system design when you
update the Structural drawings, we'd really appreciate it. You will also need to fill out a Septic System permit
application form and pay the $123.00 permit fees when you come in to pick up your building permit.
Thanks for your attention to these items, and once we receive this updated information we should be able to quickly
finalize our issuance of the building permit.
