Dear Mr. Carruth:
Regarding the subject residential remodel, Anderson Structural Engineering, lnc. (ASE) visited
thesiteonApril g,zOLg.WeunderstandtheexistinggaragestructurewasbuiltinLSTO andis
being converted to an ADU'
The existing roof structure consists of site built trusses spanning approximately 30 feet in the
East-West direction. 2 x 6 chord members are attached to 2 x 4 webs members with plywood
gusset plates. The bottom chords were noted to have multiple splices. Roof sheathing is lx
T & G boards. The roof structure appeared to be in good condition. lt was noted that a 2 x 4
web member was removed from (3) trusses to facilitate installation of vent piping.
The interior remodel involves the addition of non-bearing partition walls' We understand the
space was completely clear of walls prior to the remodel. The addition of partition walls will
provide additional support for the bottom chords, We further understand 5/8" gypsum board
ceiling will be applied to the bottom chords. The additional weight of the ceiling system is
calculated to be 2.3 psf. An existing roof dead load has been calculated to be 6 psf. Code snow
load information from 1970 could not be determined. Using a current design snow load of 40
psl the additional weight added will increase the design gravity loading by 5%. Based on
lnternational Existing Building code section 403 "Alterations" no structural modifications are
necessary if the additional load does not increase the existing gravity loads by more than 5%.
We would recommend replacement of truss web members that were removed for plumbing.
Size, location and connection of the webs should follow the original construction.

Thanks for following up on this issue. I will place a copy of this letter from the Engineer in our file & the Owner should
also affix a copy to the approved plans so that our Building lnspector can review when they are out conducting
inspections of the property.
