*Field Inspection
Dear Mr. Brown,
As requested, structural steel special inspection was conducted per the IBC 2015
Edition - Chapter 17: Structural Tests and Special Inspection and Garfield County
requirements. I arrived on-site at 10:00 AM. Mr. Billy Boff assisted me during the
inspection.
High strength bolt inspection was conducted on a newly constructed 40' X 80'
metal building. I observed all anchor bolts to be installed and tightened accordingly and
purlin bolts were 1/2" Grade 307 bolts. I observed the main frame bolts to be 1/4" ASTM
A325 Plain body bolts with no flat washer, the outrigger bolts to be 5/8" ASTM A325
plain body bolts with no flat washer, and the shear frame bolts to be 7/8" ASTM A325
plain body bolts with no flat washer. All the referenced A325 bolts were checked for
proper tensioning as Mr. Boff informed me that they had used an air impact wrench to
tighten the bolts instead of using the turn of the nut procedure as required by
specifications. Upon completion, all bolts were found to be in compliance with project
specifications and the requirements stated in Section 9 of the Specification For Structural
Joints Using A325 or A490 Bolts issued by the Research Council on Structural
Connection.
Res ectfully Submitted,
