The design flow is calculated as follows for a 1700 S.F. three bed -bedroom residentce.
The onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) is designed for a 3 -bedroom residencial
capacity.
From the Regulation 43 usage table :
Minimum population based on 3 bedrooms = 6 persons.
Gallons per day per person =75 gal/person/day, No peaking factor
Max. Design flow (Qd)gallons/day = (# of people) x (avg. flow)gal/person/day.
Design flow Qd = 6*75=450 gpd
Septic Tank Design:
INSTALLED INLET SANITARY TEE AND OUTLET EFFLUENT FILTER
SANITARY TEE. DEPTH TO TOP OF TANK FROM EXISTING GRADE IS
APPROXIMATELY 24 INCHES. TOP RISER LID @ FINISH GRADE
Use a 1250 gallon, two compartment concrete septic tank with an effluent filter outlet sanitary
tee in the second chamber. Tank shall be installed with sealed concrete risers and lids to the
finish grade surface.

Subsurface soil investigations and USDA soil texture method tests were performed by Sopris
Engineering on March 7, 2018. The soils in the development envelope were sampled and

determine the hydraulic loading rate and the appropriate absorptive surface depth for a soil
treatment unit (STU). An eight foot deep excavated profile pit and three shallow excavations
were observed in the south central portion of the site. The soils below 6 to 12 inches of topsoil

consist of moderately dense sandy silt loam with moderate granular to fine grained structure
with scattered gravel and cobbles to a depth of 5 feet overlying sandy clayey loam to the 8
foot depth explored. The soil appears to be consistent across the site.

The native soils sampled from 1-3 feet below the surface are characterized as a soil type 2A
consisting of silt loam texture with moderate granular structure to fine grained at 5 foot depth.
This soil has an effective loading rate for conventional soil treatment of 0.50 gal/S.F./day for a
level 1 conventional treatment system. The equivalent percolation rate is approximately 26-40
minutes per inch. Increased quantities of cobbles and gravel are encountered at depths
between 3 and 4 feet. No free water was encountered in excavations on site. Groundwater
levels are expected to be well below 10 feet from the existing surface grades. The soils appear
suitable for a conventional shallow absorption field consisting of gravelless infiltration chamber
units..

The treatment/absorption field is designed based on utilizing the effective Long Term
/ Acceptance Rate (LIAR) for the native soils and the application of appropriate loading factors
for a soil treatment unit system utilizing gravity distribution to gravelless chamber trenches and
use of water saving fixtures. The new treatment system and absorption field will consist of
gravity distribution of septic tank effluent via a distribution box to individual chamber trenches
with treatment across the native soil absorptive surface.
