Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Installation Observations
1813 CR 259
Garfield County, Colorado
Permit Number SEPT-11-19-6061
Aerial,
CBO Inc. observed the installation of the onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) on January 20,
2020 for the subject property. Western Colorado Excavating installed the system.
The OWTS design was based on 4-bedrooms. An average daily wastewater flow of 525 GPD was used.
The sewer line from the house was re -installed from the clean out with proper 2% grade to the new septic
tank. Additional cleanouts were installed between the house and the septic tank due to distance
exceeding 100-feet. The existing poly septic tank was abandoned by removing it.
A new, 1500-gallon, two -compartment concrete septic tank was installed with an Orenco® Biotube Pump
Vault and an Orenco® PF5005 pump in the second compartment of the septic tank. It was determined that
Deadmen were not necessary for anchoring. The floats were set to dose approximately 90 gallons each
pump cycle. The control panel for the pump is located within line of sight of the septic tank. Valley Precast
out of Buena Vista performed start-up of the pumping system.
Effluent is pressure dosed through a 1.5-inch diameter pump line to a mounded, 12' x 68' unlined sand filter
with a minimum of 2-feet of sand filter material. The excavation for the sand filter began at native grade.
Photos of invoices for sand are provided below.
Laterals are connected with a 1.5-inch diameter level manifold. Laterals used to disperse the effluent are
surrounded by washed coarse screened gravel or crushed stone (minimum 6-inches below and minimum 2-
inches above laterals). Laterals are 1.5-inches in diameter with 5/32-inch diameter orifices facing down,
spaced 3.5-feet on center (OC). Laterals begin 2-feet from the edges of the filter, with 4-feet between each
lateral. Each 1.5-inch diameter lateral ends in a sweeping ell facing up with a ball valve for flushing. A
soil separation fabric was placed over the gravel layer followed by approximately 1-foot of topsoil or other
suitable soil able to support vegetative growth. The mound has a minimum 3:1 slope (horizontal:vertical).
We verified the ditch to the west of the STA is approximately 70-feet from the mounded soil treatment
area (STA).
The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of
workmanship and/or parts and materials. CBO Inc. should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS
in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations.
LIMITS:
Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer must
have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in
which they are working. The quality of the installation is dependent of the expertise of the installer, soil
type, and weather conditions.
Please call with questions.
Sincerely,
CBO Inc.

Do Your Part, Be SepticSmart:
The Do's and Don'ts of Your Septic System
Learn these simple steps to protect your home, health, environment and property value:
septicsmart
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Do:
• Have your system inspected (in general) every three years by a licensed contractor
and have the tank pumped, when necessary, generally every three to five years.
Don't:
• Pour cooking grease or oil down the
sink or toilet.
• Rinse coffee grounds into the sink.
• Pour household chemicals down the
sink or flush them.
Do:
• Eliminate or limit the use of a garbage
disposal.
• Properly dispose of coffee grounds a
food.
• Put grease in a container to harden
before discarding in the trash.
Don't:
• Flush non -degradable products or
chemicals, such as feminine hygiene
products, condoms, dental floss,
diapers, cigarette butts, cat litter, paper
towels, pharmaceuticals.
Do:
• Dispose of these items in the trash can!
Don't:
• Park or drive on your drainfield. The
weight can damage the drain lines.
• Plant trees or shrubs too close to your
drainfield, roots can grow into your
system and clog it.
Do:
• Consult a septic service professional to
advise you of the proper distance for
planting trees and shrubs, depending on
your septic tank location.
Don't
• Concentrate your water use by using
your dishwasher, shower, washing
machine, and toilet at the same time.
All that extra water can really strain
your septic system.
Do:
• Stagger the use of water -generating
appliances. This can be helpful
especially if your system has not been
pumped in a long time.
• Become more water efficient by fixing
plumbing leaks and consider installing
bathroom and kitchen faucet aerators
and water -efficient products.
