Additional Observation of Excavation, Proposed Residence, Lot E-16, Aspen
Equestrian Estates, 33 Equestrian Way, Garfield County, Colorado
As requested by Jose Campuzano, a representative of Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed the
excavation at the subject site on July 29, 2019 for additional foundation bearing conditions. We
previously observed the foundation excavation at the site and presented our findings in a report
dated July 23, 2019, Project No. 19-7-282.
At the time of our current visit to the site, the foundation excavation was essentially the same as
previously observed except for localized wet areas from recent heavy rains. A small section of
the south footing trench at the first jog from the east side had been deepened about 3 to 4 inches
and exposed groundwater and clay soils. This section of trench should be covered with geogrid
such as Tensar TX140 then backfilled with screened rock (which was already onsite) back to
design bearing level. Since the natural soils cannot be stabilized, the footing should be widened
to at least 24 inches with an allowable bearing pressure of 1,000 psf in this section. Other
recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed.
