At the time of our May 21 site visit, the contractor had installed a 500-gallon pump chamber, pump lines, an automatic distributing valve, and effluent lines and distribution laterals to distribute effluent to five chamber trenches. The pump chamber was installed level, with access brought to grade. The control panel was mounted to the house within line of sight of the pump chamber. The design specified using a chamber unit in the trenches with a surface area of 15 ft2. The contractor had installed chamber units with a surface area of 12 ft2, but had not lengthened the trenches and added the appropriate number of chambers to compensate for the reduced STA. We informed the homeowner of this issue, who called his engineer. The engineer recommended adding the required number of chamber units (4 per trench, or 20 additional chamber units). An electrician was onsite wiring the pump and control panel during our first site visit. At the time of our May 22 site visit, the contractor had installed the additional chamber units. The five gravelless chamber trenches consist of 21 chamber units per trench (105 chamber units total). The far end of the trenches was greater than the maximum 48 inches from the top of the chamber to the top of the trench specified in the plans. We understand the contractor intended to grade the ground surface above the chambers to maintain a maximum 48 inch bury depth of the chamber units. In our opinion, this system was installed in general conformance with Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No further action or review from Garfield County Environmental Health is required regarding this permit. Please provide an As -Built drawing of the system, when available, for our files.
