Dear Bruæ:
I spoke with Luke Renninger last week regarding a large boulder that intem¡pts the
footing in one corner of the building. Luke was asking for input on how the footing
should be connected to the boulder.
I then called Dan Hardin of HP Kumar, the soils engineer on the project. Dan said
that he recommended leaving the boulder in place & doweling to it, as he thought
that removing the boulder would cause more potential settlement issues due to the
over dig.
I communicated to Luke to use #5X24" epoxy grouted dowel barc into the boulder
to match horizontal bars in the footing. Ðrill & epo{f grout the bars 6" into the
boulder.
