Dear Andy, I am issuing this letter to clarify a change in our West End Fire Station permit documents dated 5.8.20. Sheet IBC 1.1 calls for the installation of a sprinkler system throughout the existing station and the proposed apparatus bay addition. This was initially considered by the Fire District as a policy decision since it is not required by the IBC 2015. After further sprinkler design/engineering and pricing it was determined that is was cost prohibitive and was removed from the project. The limited water flows would require an enormous water storage tank along with pumps and backup power supply in order to meet NFPA code requirements. IBC 2015 903.2.10 Group S-2 Enclosed Parking Garage 1. <12,000 s.f. (The existing station apparatus bays + the new addition = 3,793 s.f.). 2. Not located below another group (Single story addition). (Note: The Crew Quarters, built in 2004, has a stand fire sprinkler system that was part of its initial construction. This discrete system will continue to r+ice the Crew Quarters only).
